In the Heroics Department of U.A. High School in My Hero Academia, Class 1-B is often overlooked due to Class 1-A's frequent displays of power, not to mention its encounters with wildly strong villains. However, Class 1-B's students are just as talented and possess immense potential, with certain students possessing Quirks that are arguably even stronger than those of many Class 1-A attendees.
As such, it's high time to give the most exceptional students of Class 1-B the attention they deserve. From students who possess surprisingly overwhelming offensive power to those with invaluable support Quirks, these powerful Class 1-B students are anything but second-rate in My Hero Academia.
Reiko Yanagi Is Class 1-B's Telekinetic Threat
Reiko Yanagi has a deep fascination with all things horror-related, from ghost stories and the supernatural to anything eerie or unsettling. Her posture alone gives off a ghostly impression, with her dangling arms resembling traditional depictions of spirits or zombies. Fittingly, Reiko's Quirk is called Poltergeist.
Poltergeist is a straightforward ability, allowing Reiko to control objects within her range like an esper. She is capable of hurling multiple objects at high velocity, overwhelming her opponents with a barrage of sharp projectiles. However, her ability has one key limitation: she can only control objects that are no larger than an average human body.
Kinoko Komori Controls the Battlefield with Fungi
Kinoko Komori looks like she stepped straight out of a fairy tale, thanks to her hero costume decorated with mushroom patterns often associated with fantasy stories. Her Quirk, fittingly named Mushroom, is far less whimsical, allowing her to grow various types of fungi on any solid surface she touches.
While Komori is not a traditional combat-focused hero, her Quirk is genuinely terrifying. She can instantly spread mushrooms across the battlefield, capable of suffocating her opponents and overwhelming them with fungal growth. Underestimating her on the battlefield is a guaranteed way to lose.
Setsuna Tokage Is One of Class 1-B's Most Naturally Gifted Students
One Piece's Buggy the Clown has a worthy counterpart in Setsuna Tokage. Her quirk, Lizard Tail Splitter, allows her to divide her body into as many as 50 separate pieces while maintaining complete control over each one. Even if one of those pieces is destroyed, Setsuna can regenerate it, although doing so places a considerable strain on her body.
From the very beginning, Setsuna has been regarded as one of Class 1-B's most naturally gifted students, mostly because she enrolled in U.A. High School through a recommendation. Her classmates hold her in high regard, placing their trust in both her judgment and leadership. Their willingness to follow her into battle speaks volumes about their confidence in her combat ability and decision-making.
Jurota Shishida Is Both Smart and Savage
Facing Jurota Shishida in a head-on battle could be one of the most terrifying experiences ever, mostly because he can transform into a massive beast that could pass as the Beast Titan's double in Attack on Titan. On top of that, he truly embodies a wild beast, with his personality shifting from composed to reckless as he mauls opponents and sends them flying with his claws.
Make no mistake, Jurota does not lose his sense of self despite the uncontrollable nature of his Quirk. He remains capable of staying one step ahead of his enemies, formulating effective strategies, and even toggling his Quirk to evade attacks and surprise opponents when they least expect it.
Itsuka Kendo's Big Fist Is Built For Combat and Rescue
Getting a slap from Itsuka Kendo would leave severe injuries due to the massive size of her fists. Even her karate chop is enough to keep Monoma in check, as her hands alone carry lethal power. As Class 1-B's big sister, Itsuka ensures everyone is safe and sound, not to mention well-behaved during joint training and showdowns with Class 1-A.
Itsuka's Quirk, Big Fist, literally increases the size of her fists at will. In addition to their increased size, her giant fists possess tremendous physical strength, enabling her to overpower opponents through sheer force. This overwhelming power has allowed her to overwhelm formidable foes such as the villain Mustard and even catch Momo Yaoyorozu off guard. Her Quirk is also perfect for search-and-rescue missions, with her fists capable of carrying survivors away from harm.
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu Is Class 1-B’s Steel Powerhouse
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu is one of the most powerful heavy-hitters in My Hero Academia, with his Quirk's power rivaling the likes of Class 1-A's Eijiro Kirishima. With his Quirk, Real Steel, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu can turn his entire body into steel, allowing him to withstand different kinds of attacks, including heat, ice, and more.
In addition, Class 1-B's Tetsutetsu becomes an absolute force of nature whenever his Quirk is activated. Along with his hardened steel body, he gains tremendous superhuman strength, allowing him to overwhelm opponents through sheer brute force alone. His heroism and drive to grow stronger are two of his greatest qualities as well, making him a powerful Class 1-B student with near-limitless potential.
Shihai Kuroiro Is Class 1-B's Stealthiest Student
At first glance, Shihai Kuroiro looks more like a villain than a hero, thanks to his intimidating appearance. In fact, his silhouette bears such a striking resemblance to Tomura Shigaraki's that he could easily pass as the villain's double. His personality isn't the nicest either, since he enjoys catching people off guard with his schemes and other forms of deceit.
Kuroiro's Quirk, Black, enables him to merge into anything with a sufficiently dark color, allowing him to disappear into naturally dark objects or those temporarily darkened by their surroundings. Once merged, he can move and attack at great speeds, making him the stealthiest Class 1-B student in the series.
Monoma Neito's Copy Can Turn Almost Any Quirk into His Own
Neito Monoma may not have the nicest personality in Class 1-B, but he has real, solid abilities that are essential in crucial and high-stakes matches in My Hero Academia. Thanks to his Quirk, Copy, Monoma successfully contained Shigaraki Tomura for a while with Eraserhead's Erasure, and also used Kurogiri's Warp Gate to teleport his allies as part of the ultimate plan to defeat Shigaraki and All For One.
Monoma is exceptionally dangerous in battles where he has the opportunity to copy multiple Quirks. Although he can store only four Quirks at a time and each copied Quirk requires 10 seconds to switch, his ever-changing arsenal makes him one of the most unpredictable fighters on the battlefield. Above all, Class 1-B's Monoma is living proof that even a supporting character can steal the spotlight and, at times, rival or even surpass the series' main characters.
Juzo Honenuki's Softening Is a Groundbreaking Power
Earning a recommendation to enroll at U.A. High School requires exceptional talent and skill, and Class 1-B's Juzo Honenuki has more than proven he deserves it. He is so incredibly skilled that he can accurately assess whether he has the upper hand or is at a disadvantage during a fight. Although he hates losing, he accepts defeat with humility and uses every setback as motivation to improve and overcome his weaknesses.
Juzo's Quirk, Softening, is especially effective against opponents who rely on stable footing, as a single touch allows him to soften the ground into a quicksand-like terrain. He can then swim through the softened earth, making his movements difficult to predict and enabling him to launch surprise attacks from below. At any moment, Juzo can restore the ground to its original hardness, trapping opponents before they have a chance to escape. He can even soften solid-based counterattacks, turning them into goo.
Ibara Shiozaki Dominates With Vine Manipulation
Faith and religion are central to Class 1-B's Ibara Shiozaki, shaping both her personality and fighting style. Fittingly, many of her techniques draw inspiration from her strong beliefs, with attack names such as Via Dolorosa, Faith's Shield, and Crucifixion reflecting her strong religious devotion.
Ibara's quirk, Vines, literally grants her control over vines, which extend from her green, thorn-covered hair. She can easily use it to cover the battlefield with plant life, immobilize her opponent's movements, and can even construct a vine wall that can protect her from counterattacks. Although close-quarters combat is her greatest weakness, Ibara has trained extensively under Edgeshot, Kamui Woods, and Mt. Lady to improve that aspect of her fighting style and overcome its limitations.
