Wendy's Launches Sonic the Hedgehog Collab

Sonic the Hedgehog and Wendy's restaurants team up with a collaboration that brings Sonic collectibles to stores for a limited time.

A new promotional collab between Sonic the Hedgehog and Wendy's restaurants is rolling out. Fans of the classic Sega series may want to check out this promotion, which many have been eager to see since Sonic the Hedgehog held a collab with Wendy's in the UK.

Wendy's is no stranger to video games, with the restaurant chain previously making a name for itself by playing things like Fortnite. Its social media accounts haven't been afraid to get in on the gaming trend either, with the Overwatch League and Wendy's once firing off at each other on Twitter in a roast.

Sonic Arrives at Wendy's

As part of Sonic's 35th anniversary celebration, the iconic franchise is pairing up with Wendy's restaurants located in the US. Customers who purchase a Wendy's Kids' Meal will get one of seven character card cases featuring characters like Sonic himself, Amy Rose, Tails, Silver, Knuckles, Shadow, and Rouge. Each case contains five cards, with a total of 35 to collect. Kids' meals at Wendy's come with an option between a 2-piece of chicken tenders, 4-piece of chicken nuggets, a hamburger, or a cheeseburger, plus fries or apple bites, and a kids'-sized drink. The new promo landed on July 20 and will run through early September, or for as long as supplies last.

This is just one of the ways that the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is celebrating its anniversary. The series kicked off its anniversary starting with an unusual addition in the form of a podcast at the start of 2026. The Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds game is still seeing regular updates, with one of the latest introducing Mega Man to the roster, with plans for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters, Avatar: The Last Airbender characters, and some cast members of the Evangelion anime also in the works. In terms of pure celebration, the series also saw a life-sized statue of Sonic go up this year, which contains synthetic DNA based on the character's traits.

As far as games are concerned, Sonic may potentially see a remake of Sonic CD. The popular game is responsible for introducing the characters of Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, and many fans would be happy to see its return. Given that the next Sonic movie will reportedly include elements from Sonic CD, that may be all the more reason for Sega to revisit it soon. However, there's no concrete news on the potential remake yet from Sega itself, so fans should take the information with a grain of salt.

While there may yet be more game projects or releases announced for the rest of 2026, there are other mediums that Sonic is active in, as well. A Sonic Live in Concert tour will begin in September 2026 and will continue until early 2027, touring numerous cities all over the US, followed by the UK. Further, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is expected to release in theaters in March 2027, following the success of the first three movies. In any case, it's good to see the Sonic franchise doing so well, especially since the series nearly came to an end a decade ago. Sega was on the verge of canceling the series entirely after releasing several games that didn't perform well, but it ultimately pulled through and is now seemingly flourishing.
