Elon Musk said Wednesday that xAI's Grok Imagine will produce a full-length movie based on Homer's "The Odyssey" before the end of the year, saying it will be "historically accurate and true to the art of Homer."
"Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer," Musk wrote in a post on X.
Musk made the announcement while reposting an AI-generated demonstration by the X account @heavypulp.
The roughly three-minute clip, created with Grok Imagine, depicts a scene between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso as a demonstration of the platform's video-generation capabilities.
Musk did not say whether the planned feature would be generated entirely by artificial intelligence, involve human actors or filmmakers, or how it would be distributed.
Musk's announcement comes just days after the release of director Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," which has opened to strong reviews and a robust box office. Before the film's debut, Musk criticized Nolan's adaptation over its casting and argued that a faithful version of the epic should adhere more closely to Homer's work.
Earlier Wednesday, Musk also endorsed an X user's suggestion that filmmaker Mel Gibson direct a separate adaptation using historically accurate ships, armor, and weapons, with dialogue taken directly from Homer's epic and spoken in Homeric Greek. Musk replied, "I'm down."
