House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax Wednesday that his committee is "reviewing everything" in its case files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Comer told "Ed Henry: The Big Take" that one area under review involves Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates' meetings with the late convicted sex offender after Epstein's conviction, which Comer said occurred "a couple dozen times."
"Well, Gates testified that he met with Epstein numerous times, that he thought Epstein was sincere about donating money to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation," he said.
Comer said Gates' interview also touched on his personal relationships.
"Bill Gates testified under oath that he had three affairs, and he listed who the women's names were. And none of those women's names were in the Epstein circle," Comer continued.
"They were much, much older women, closer to Bill Gates' age."
Comer said the committee compares newly obtained information with transcripts from its interviews, including Gates'.
"Anytime we get new information, we match it up with our transcript," he said.
"We interviewed Bill Gates for several hours, so there are hundreds and hundreds of questions that were asked about his relationship and the time he spent with Epstein. We're going to review it."
Comer said the passage of time has complicated the investigation.
"The majority of the men that we've deposed or interviewed have had a hard time recalling things, including the former president, Bill Clinton. They saw the pictures and they just couldn't recall much about the pictures," he said.
"But the former president didn't deny that was him in the pictures. He just couldn't recall a lot about the details that happened."
Comer said his team is doing the best it can with what little hard evidence there is to work with.
"You know, it's just a very frustrating investigation because many of these crimes were committed decades ago. A lot of the worst offenders are dead," he said.
"And a lot of the ones that are still alive are playing the memory card and they just can't recall what happened. Hard to believe."
The Gates Foundation said Tuesday that it will strengthen its governance and oversight policies after an independent review of its past interactions with Epstein found no evidence the foundation paid him any money or that staff knew about his criminal activities.
"The work we do depends on integrity and earning and maintaining the trust of partners," CEO Mark Suzman said in a statement. Suzman commissioned the review with the support of Gates, the foundation's chair, and its independent board members.
