The driver veered off the road and rolled down a nearby 65-foot embankment, the CHP said.

A woman was killed on a rural Paso Robles road last night after veering off and rolling into a nearby embankment, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Tuesday morning.

According to the CHP incident page, the car was driving on Adelaida Road west of Paso Robles, then ran off the road and rolled onto its roof at 2:39 p.m.

In the aftermath of the rollover incident, no one was getting out of the car, and the CHP’s H-70 helicopter was initially called to the crash site.

The first emergency responders on scene reported that the vehicle, which had only one occupant, had rolled 45- to 75-feet down a hill. Medics then confirmed that the driver had died in the crash, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Adelaida Road was closed east of Hidden Mountain Road and west of Stag Leaps Way while recovery efforts were underway as of 3:05 p.m., according to the CHP page.

“A fatal collision has shut down Adelaide Road near the 4500 block,” CHP’s Templeton office said in a post on X. “Expect delays. Reopening is estimated around 6 p.m.”

By 7 p.m., the road was back open to traffic.

“Please continue to drive carefully through the area and stay alert on the winding roadway,” the X post said.

CHP later confirmed Tuesday morning that the female driver was alone and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, and the driver was wearing her seatbelt.

The CHP also said the embankment was roughly 65 feet.

The collision is being investigated by the CHP Templeton Area Office, where the vehicle was taken in for evidence examination to rule out any potential mechanical issues, Tuesday’s release said.
