The New York Yankees find themselves in a fight this season to win the American League East. Ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the Bronx Bombers are looking for help. New York is really interested in Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins.

The Yankees are getting competition for Jeffers, per a new report from USA Today. The Tampa Bay Rays are also really interested in the slugger.

“There’s nothing you can do about it,’’ Jeffers said recently about possibly getting traded. “You just go out there and continue to play baseball. If I wanted to be a GM, I’d stop playing. So, I’ll keep on playing and figure out the future career path after I’m done.”

The Twins are reportedly cautious about moving Jeffers.

“The Twins’ dilemma is that they are still hanging in the race, just 3 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central race and 2 back in the wild-card race. They do have reliable Victor Caratini, but he’s not Jeffers,” USA Today reported.

The Yankees once led the AL East this season, but a series of setbacks has caused New York to slide in the standings. New York is currently second in the division. The Yankees hold a 56-44 record.

New York has long been rumored to want a catcher before the trade deadline passes. The Yankees have struggled in recent months, as the team has dealt with the loss of Aaron Judge. Judge is out with a rib injury.

This season, Jeffers is hitting at a .288 batting average for Minnesota. He has been a steady piece in the Twins lineup, as Minnesota looks to stay competitive in the AL Central. The Twins have a 49-52 record on the season.

The MLB trade deadline is August 3.
