American Brandon McNulty was hit by a car during the recon of the Stage 16 time-trial course. UAE Team Emirates’ manager said his rider’s condition was not worrying, while not certain he could take part.

The recon of Stage 16 of the Tour de France was anything but smooth for UAE Team Emirates. Brandon McNulty was hit by a car ahead of Tuesday’s individual time trial between Évian and Thonon-les-Bains. While he was riding the TT course, the 28-year-old American was thrown to the ground. “He was just riding his bike with a car behind him. A regular car, we don’t know who it was,” Maura Gianetti, the Emirati team’s manager, told The Athletic. “And when he passed it, the car just stopped. Brandon couldn’t avoid it and he hit it.”

The crash happened on a road open to the public, as Tadej Pogacar’s teammate was heading back toward the stage start. Gianetti was not sure his rider would be able to take part in the time trial. “I hope so, I’m waiting for the doctor’s confirmation,” he said. He explained that McNulty had “nothing serious” a priori. The former U.S. time-trial champion is scheduled to start at 4:40 p.m.

That's the scenario in every headline about Ford's expanded Start Inhibit feature this month, and it's a real scenario the technology solves. It's also the least interesting part of the story. Garage-worthy EDC gear, on sale this week. The more interesting fact...

Boxing star Hannah Rapp was killed while biking after boyfriend made perfectly innocent gesture at reckless driver: cops

It’s a gesture that any cyclist has probably made at a car that veered too close — and cops say it cost boxing star Hannah Rapp her life. Rapp, 26, an up-and-coming featherweight fighter, was cycling along a two-lane highway, FM 159, in Brazos County, Texas, on Saturday, when investigators say 31-year-old Charles Medina overtook her and her boyfriend Will Pollalis in his car with just a foot to spare. Pollalis yelled at the driver and raised his...
