(NewsNation) — Matt Damon told Ben Affleck that he landed the role in “The Odyssey” before he told his wife.
In a joint interview with Tom Holland on “100 Questions With Tom Simons,” Damon explained that he tried to call his wife, Luciana Barroso, first to tell her the news but couldn’t reach her, so he called his best friend instead.
“So, I immediately called my wife who was on a Zoom, and so she couldn’t pick up, and I called Ben Affleck,” he said, adding that Affleck “freaked out.”
The “Gone Girl” actor was so excited about Damon playing Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s epic that he ended up breaking the news to Barroso.
“I was on the phone with him for about half an hour and they were at the office in L.A. and then I hung up with him and a minute later my wife texted, like, ‘Why didn’t you tell me first?’” Damon said.
Despite not being able to tell his wife, the “Air” actor sings Barroso’s praises.
The couple, who share four daughters, Alexia, Isabella, Gia and Stella, also work together professionally.
Barroso is a partner at Affleck and Damon’s production company Artist’s Equity.
“She’s been a part of that for me since I’ve known her. She reads everything I’m doing. She looks at cuts of movies. I’ve really relied on her notes for 23 years,” he told People Magazine.
