Matt Damon might have undergone an impressive physical transformation for The Odyssey, but the 55-year-old actor has also revealed he wasn't the only one who got in shape for 2026's blockbuster hit of the summer.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Damon revealed that, in several key scenes of the film, a female stunt performer acted as his stand-in, specifically in scenes where his character faced off against a towering enemy Laestrygonians.
“When we did the force perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians… there were these stuntmen who were all seven feet and then they got stunt men who were under five feet," Damon explained. "My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I’ve ever seen. When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in.”
“So there are those shots in the movie where you see these giants looming over me, and so it was almost 100 percent my arms in the movie, but you gotta give it up where it’s due,” he continued.
Arriving in theaters earlier this month, The Odyssey follows Damon's ancient Greek warrior Odysseus as he attempts to return home from the Trojan War. While en route, he faces off against a myriad of challenges and enigmatic gods, monsters and other formidable foes, all the while his wife (Anne Hathaway) and son (Tom Holland) eagerly await his return.
In addition to Damon, Hathaway and Holland, the film features an ensemble cast that includes the likes ofZendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Travis Scott and Benny Safdie, among many others.
The latest film from director Christopher Nolan, it has won universal acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
