Magnolia firefighters issue warnings over summer heat safety

Members of Magnolia Fire-Rescue issued warnings and safety tips to help the public manage the dangers of extreme summer heat.

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – Members of Magnolia Fire-Rescue are warning the public to play it safe in the summer heat. They say the high temperatures can be more dangerous than many people realize and they encourage everyone to check on elderly neighbors and those living alone.

They offer the following heat safety tips:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Avoid peak heat hours and limit strenuous activity between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Never leave anyone in a vehicle because heat builds fast and can be fatal.

Magnolia Fire-Rescue says heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke so it’s important to know the signs of heat-related illness which include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion. If symptoms worsen, seek medical help immediately.
