Olandria Carthen and Nic Vansteenberghe have broken up after more than a year together.
The former Love Island USA stars “decided to part ways,” according to People. “The distance between them and their busy schedules made it challenging to maintain their connection,” a source told the outlet. “They still remain close friends. They share a deep love and respect for each other and will always support one another whenever possible.”
Their romance began during Casa Amor, which gave both Islanders another chance to find a connection. However, Carthen admitted she initially held back because she respected Vansteenberghe’s relationship with Cierra Ortega.
The reality show alum previously told People she “didn’t allow myself to feel that spark” because Ortega had already coupled up with Vansteenberghe.
Everything changed after Ortega exited the villa and Carthen said she finally chose to “make my own selfish decision” and explore her chemistry with Vansteenberghe.
She later called the decision to couple up with the DJ “the best decision I could have ever made,” adding that it “made my whole experience way better.”
Vansteenberghe also made it clear his feelings ran deep from the start. He previously described himself as Carthen’s “secret admirer from day one.”
After the show, Carthen and Vansteenberghe confirmed their romance but gradually stepped away from sharing every moment online.
“Mentally, we were both just drained,” Carthen told Glamour last year. “I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe if we share less, that’s better.’ But even then, discourse starts because we don’t share enough. I’m like, I don’t know how to find a happy medium in this life now.”
She doubled down on that stance during an interview with Cosmopolitan in June and said, “Why does it matter if me and Nic are together? Even when we were at Coachella, people in the comments were like, ‘Oh, I just needed proof that they saw each other this week.’ Why are you so invested in people that don’t know you?”
Carthen further explained that they did not intend to “monetize” their relationship or “put it on display” for content.
