Lindsey Graham desperately called one of his staffers in his final moments before he suddenly died over the weekend, said Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville.
The longtime senator and close ally of President Donald Trump died unexpectedly on Saturday due to a "sudden" heart complication, said his office in a statement. Tuberville told reporters on Monday that one of his staffers was Graham's schedule on Saturday night when the 71-year-old frantically called.
While it has been reported that Graham initially shrugged off his health concerns, he admitted to the staffer that he needed help. "Lindsey called, called basically, said, 'Listen, I'm having chest pains. You know, I need to do something,'" said Tuberville. The scheduler asked if Graham had called 911, to which Graham said, "No, that's the reason I called you." Tuberville added: "By the time she got there, 911 had knocked the door down, and they were working on him." It comes after Graham "went ballistic" at a world leader just hours before he dropped dead.

The late South Carolina senator spoke with President Donald Trump on Saturday night to discuss his recent trip to Ukraine. The president also confided in him about his plan to attack Iran.
Trump told Newsmax on Monday night that he asked about how Graham was doing after the trip. "I'm doing good, but I'm tired," Trump said, Graham told him.
In an interview with NBC's Meet the Press, the president described Graham as "a member of the family" to him, adding that the senator called him to discuss the passage of the SAVE America ACT, which Graham co-sponsored in the Senate.
"He actually said he was tired, but he wanted to pass the SAVE America Act, and I said, 'Well, we're going to get it done, Lindsey. We're going to get it done. I'll see you, like, soon,'" Trump said.
Graham traveled to Ukraine during the July 4 recess in Washington, D.C., to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the trip, Graham visited a drone facility that was later destroyed by the Russians.
An unidentified person who spoke to Graham in the hours before his death told the outlet that he had complained of not feeling well. When the individual told Graham to get medical attention immediately, the senator said he would do so on Sunday morning after his scheduled appearance on Meet the Press.
"I can't die now. I still need to do the Russian sanctions, get Iran sorted out, and do Israeli-Saudi normalization," Graham joked during the call.
However, just a few hours later, Graham was seen on a gurney as first responders attempted life-saving measures.
Graham's office stated that the senator's death was due to a "quick and sudden illness," but a preliminary medical examiner found that Graham likely died after a tear in his aorta.
The tear in the inner wall of the aorta, called an aortic dissection, was related to the hardening of Graham's arteries. An official cause of death will be revealed after toxicological and microscopic testing.
