A Las Vegas DraftKings employee was arrested for allegedly participating in a college proposition betting scheme with four others. This group included a Fresno State basketball player, according to court documents obtained by Nexstar’s KLAS.
Las Vegas Justice Court records indicate that Samuel Silverman was charged with committing a fraudulent act in a gaming establishment and conspiracy to cheat at a gambling game. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 4.
According to court documents, Silverman is one of five individuals accused of participating in a sports betting ring involving a Fresno State basketball player. The Nevada Gaming Control Board began its investigation after the NCAA requested assistance in identifying a bettor. The NCAA was seeking a bettor who placed suspicious wagers.
Betting Group Details
Of the five individuals investigated, only Silverman was arrested and charged. Investigators from the Nevada Gaming Control Board allege that Silverman conspired with a Fresno State player. In addition, they say he placed proposition bets on the player’s performance, including points, assists, rebounds, and three-pointers made.
Court documents state that Nevada Gaming Control investigators focused on a January 7, 2025, game between Fresno State and Colorado State University. A suspicious bet was allegedly placed through BetMGM, and investigators identified a financial trail connecting five individuals, including Silverman.
According to court documents, Silverman attended Fresno State from 2020 to 2024 and was involved with the university’s basketball program. Investigators found through his LinkedIn profile that he began working as a sports trader for DraftKings Las Vegas in 2024.
Another DraftKings Las Vegas employee reportedly placed three wagers on the January 7, 2025, game, resulting in payouts totaling $15,950. Investigators determined that this employee was both Silverman’s colleague and roommate.
According to court documents, the winnings were divided as follows: $1,450 to the Fresno State basketball player, $3,000 to Silverman, $11,325 to the DraftKings employee who placed the initial wager, and $200 to another individual. NCAA President Charlie Baker testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in December of 2024 on the dangers of sports gambling.
