Lara Trump was caught up in her own controversy following the World Cup final on July 19 after social media users called her out for appearing to use artificial intelligence enhancements on photos she shared featuring her family at the match, Wonderwall.com can report.
President Donald Trump‘s daughter-in-law later confirmed their suspicions, blaming the distortions on AI.
Lara called out by critics
Lara attended the World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with her family, including her husband, Eric Trump, and their children, Luke and Carolina.
Some of the photos she shared caught the attention of online viewers, including an image of Lara sitting with her husband and kids in a luxury box. Luke is seen sitting on his dad’s lap while Lara’s arms are wrapped around Carolina.
Another featured Lara with Carolina and her sister-in-law Tiffany Trump. She captioned the carousel of images, “What a blast!!!”
Some social media users pointed to anomalies including Lara’s arms and a red straw appearing to be elongated. The color of Lara’s nails was also different in one shot.
“Did you get your nails redone mid game or something?” one X user asked after seeing the images. Another posted a similar sentiment, writing, “Want to explain to us what’s going on with your hands? Did you get a manicure during the game?”
Lara later took to her Instagram Story to reveal that at least one image had been manipulated, writing, “When AI takes over… the app I used to fit this in the frame changed my nails and made Carolina’s straw SOOO long,” adding a smiling emoji with sweat running down its forehead.
Her confession drew mixed reactions, with one Instagram commenter calling the move “Typical,” while another wrote, “So on par with her being a fraud all the time.” Yet another wrote, “ROTTEN in all shapes and sizes!”
Others were more supportive, with one online commenter writing, “Who cares. Everyone has used AI to edit photos before,” while a different Instagram user quipped, “Omg! What a crime!!!”
Lara’s poorly timed caption language
Lara’s choice of words in her photo caption was also perceived as poorly timed by some, as she wrote “What a blast,” prompting criticism from some users because the post came days after U.S. military members were killed defending against Iranian ballistic missiles and drone attacks in Jordan.
A reported 18 American lives have been lost in the U.S. and Israel’s conflict with Iran so far. At least 447 U.S. service members have also been reported injured since the beginning of the war, according to recent Pentagon figures.
“It must be nice to be out there watching it while our soldiers are fighting a war and some of them are being brought home in coffins … anyways, have fun,” one X user wrote in response to Lara’s World Cup photo post.
Another X user added, “You know our military suffered casualties, right? Are you completely brain dead or just so damaged, and insecure that your need to showcase your ‘Having The Best Time Ever’ is over the top Tone Deaf.”
Still another person on X wrote, “What a disgusting example of a family allowing service men and women fight Trump’s stupid Iran war while you muck it up at the World Cup. Out of touch.”
President booed at World Cup
The president’s appearance at the final also fueled headlines after he was loudly booed by portions of the crowd as he presented the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning Spanish team. He then lingered onstage during the trophy ceremony as players celebrated.
Photos shared on FIFA’s official X account after the match also appeared to have been cropped to exclude the president, who remained beside the celebrating champions during the trophy presentation, leaving only the edge of his navy suit visible in one corner.
Hours later, when Spain shared a victory photo from the celebration, Trump was also absent from the image, prompting fresh online speculation that he had been intentionally cropped out.
Lara also criticized for her dance moves
The president likely did little to boost his popularity in Spain after publicly criticizing the country during an ongoing feud with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez over Madrid’s lack of support during the U.S. war in Iran. “Spain is a wasted cause,” Trump told NATO chief Mark Rutte earlier this month.
Lara has also faced online criticism over other recent social media posts. Earlier this year, a video went viral showing Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan teaching the fitness-loving mother of two his signature “Tiger Dance” moves.
But some critics were not impressed, with the routine drawing laughter and secondhand embarrassment online.

Another social media user added, “I’m not even sure what I just watched,” while still another called the display “the most unseasoned dance ever.”
