Kyle Richards has been sober for four years — and she’s taken the time to acknowledge that achievement properly.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star took to Instagram on Monday, July 20, to open up about her decision to stop drinking. She shared what led her to make the change, reflected on her sobriety journey so far and offered encouragement to others considering the same path.
“This past week marked 4 years since I gave up alcohol. I’ve talked about my reasons why I made that decision,” Richards wrote alongside a selfie of her looking happy and healthy while wearing a stylish hat. “I knew I could still be ‘fun’ without alcohol and feel a lot happier the next day. I quickly learned that the people who had an issue with my choice were more concerned about how it made them feel about themselves.”
Quitting alcohol did more for the reality star than she had anticipated.
“What I wasn’t expecting was a calmer Kyle in spite of going through very challenging times,” she described. “Something shifts in you even if you aren’t a big drinker. Things that would normally make me feel anxious, I now faced with an unfamiliar calmness. Looking healthier was just a bonus. For me, it’s been all upside.”
“I know it’s not easy for everyone but if it’s something you’re considering, don’t be discouraged by people that want you to drink for their entertainment. Even well meaning friends. I have plenty of friends who have no desire to give up alcohol. I totally respect that and they respect me. For me, I focused on how good I felt and that was more important to me than having fun for a few hours at a party followed by ‘alcohol doom’ the next day,” she added.
After sharing her non-alcoholic beverage preferences for social events, she concluded, “I didn’t think I’d be here 4 years later sharing that I still haven’t drank. But I’m happy and proud that I can say that.”
One fan suggested, “Kyle I think it would be fabulous if you created a non-alc line – you’re the perfect person to do it!”
Well-wishes poured in from Real Housewives correspondent Brice Sander, beauty founder Jerrod Blandino, Andy Cohen and fellow Housewife Sutton Brown, among other public figures.
In 2023, Richards had shared another message about her sobriety while marking one year without alcohol.
At the time, she wrote, “Mainly people are supportive even if they didn’t quite understand since I don’t have a ‘problem’ with alcohol. Although trust me plenty of times it didn’t feel like that 😆.”
She continued, “Alcohol made me feel depressed the next day no matter how fun the night before was. And honestly, life is going to throw us some difficult days. I certainly don’t need to be adding any extra ones to that list. A lot of you send me DM’s asking about my journey without alcohol, so I decided to share here today on this 365th day 🙏 Cheers ❤️.”
