Kitten left alone for first time, owner can’t believe where she finds her

One user shared: "I have to give my cat my pants when I get home from work every day. This has been going on for [four] years.”

Leaving a pet alone for the first time can be nerve‑racking for any owner. Not only do people miss their furry companions, but there’s always that lingering worry about what kind of chaos—or surprise—they might come back to. In this case, the surprise was heartwarming rather than messy.

The video, posted to @brownnboris with the caption: “It was my kittens first day home alone and this is how I found her after I took my uniform off,” shows the tiny kitten, Bria, tucked snugly inside the owner’s combat trousers.

Her owner told Newsweek: “I have never been a cat person but after leaving a 15-year marriage, I finally took the step to start over.”

The two are now practically inseparable—except when she’s at work, of course. In the clip, little Bria’s head pops out through the front zipper as though she’s burrowed in and claimed the jacket as her own cozy sleeping bag. The video has already racked up more than 151,000 views and 21,600 likes.

How Long Can You Leave a Kitten Alone?

The behavior isn’t unusual for young cats, especially those still adjusting to being left alone. According to U.K.‑based Cat’s Protection, young kittens should only be left for a maximum of a few hours at a time.

The website explains that kittens “have small stomachs but need lots of energy to grow,” meaning they should be fed “little and often throughout the day.”

Their natural curiosity and high energy levels also mean owners need to keep a close eye on them to ensure they don’t get into danger or cause mischief around the home.

The charity notes: “Although you no doubt want to spend as much time as possible with your cat, you will probably need to leave them home alone occasionally. Unfortunately it’s not practical to take them everywhere with you!”

While cats are famously independent and often enjoy quiet time to snooze, they still rely on daily human care. And although they don’t typically show the same separation‑related behaviors as dogs, they can become bored or frustrated if left alone for long periods.

It is important for owners to always leave fresh water and food, a clean litter tray and make sure any hazards like wires are out of the way.

TikTok Reacts

At the end of the video, the owner can be heard asking: “Baby girl did you miss me?” and users wasted no time answering for her.

“She [did] indeed miss you. The baby needed your scent,” one commenter wrote.

Another added: “They cuddle up on your clothes because they hold the scent of their favorite human.”

A third user shared a similar experience: “I have to give my cat, my pants when I get home from work every day. This has been going on for [four] years.”

Update 05/05/26 04:41 a.m. ET: This story has been updated to add the original video and comments from the owner.
