When it comes to feral cats, most people would save them all if they could. Every cat in the world deserves a loving home, but unfortunately, it just doesn't work like that all the time. There are thousands of cats out there who have never, and unfortunately will never, have homes.
One mama cat did everything she could to make sure that wasn't what happened to her baby. She found the kitten a home, though she knew she herself couldn't go inside, and she still comes by to visit:
Sassa Esmith is happy that the mama cat trusted her with her last baby! She's the best: not only did she take the baby into her home forever, but she even TNVRed Mama. She took her to the vet, had her vaccinated and spayed, and let her go.
It might seem harsh or "unfair," but most feral cats could never live happily indoors. It's different for kittens: they're young and impressionable. Once they've spent years outdoors, though, forcing them to adjust to indoor life is too tough.

Sassa did exactly what she was supposed to do in this situation. Had the cat wanted to come inside too, she most likely would have allowed it. However, she didn't, and so now the goal is to give the kitten the best life possible and save more kittens:
Teddy will hopefully be available for adoption soon. If you live close enough, you might even get Mama coming by for a visit!
Should You Take in Feral Kittens?
Sassa knows what she's doing. She looks after an entire cat colony and does a ton of TNVR work. She knows everything there is to know about how to help feral cats and kittens —much more than the average person would know.
Taking in a feral kitten is entirely different from adopting a kitten or buying one from a cattery. Feral kittens have a lot of unique challenges, including:
- Socialization needs beyond typical kittens
- Extra expenses dealing with vaccines and potential medical issues
- Difficulty keeping them indoors
Feral kittens need more time and energy than typical kittens a lot of the time. If that's not something you can offer them, it would be best to leave them to the professionals!
