Georgia football has been one of the best programs in the country since NIL became legal in 2021. But with the way the media and college football fans talk about Georgia’s NIL resources you wouldn’t know that.
Kirby Smart was asked about Georgia’s NIL and how he uses it at SEC Media Days on Tuesday( and he made it very clear that there isn’t a problem with the Bulldogs’ resources even if everyone thinks they are struggling financially.
Georgia’s NIL strategy makes them look broke compared to the rest of the country
Georgia’s 2027 recruiting class isn’t where they want it to be. They are ranked outside of the top 10 which has almost never been the case under Smart.
Georgia has also recently been losing more recruitments for elite recruits than they have in the past, and that has especially been the case with players who make it known that they care about NIL. These developments make Georgia seem broke, but that just isn’t true.
Smart didn’t go into specific details at SEC Media Days on Tuesday about his NIL strategy, but he has in the past. Previously he’s shared that he will not overpay for recruits or transfers whose sole purpose is to make as much money as possible. Instead he chooses to pay his current players to keep his roster in tact, and that strategy has really worked out for him.
Playing at Georgia also makes players far more marketable as well, that’s why six Bulldogs and one commit just signed new deals with Nike. Georgia didn’t have to do anything to get those players those deals, they just fell into their lap partially because they play at Georgia.
So who cares what anyone else says. Smart knows that his NIL resources are more than adequate, and as long as he keeps winning does it really matter what their NIL activity looks like?
Georgia’s on field success proves their NIL strategy is working
What’s more important? Winning on the field or looking like you have a ton of NIL backing?
With the way some fans and media talk it seems like they’d much rather have their school look like they have a ton of money, but that’s not how Georgia rolls. All they care about is winning, and they’ve done that more than anyone else in the NIL era.
Since 2021 Georgia has won three SEC titles and two National Championships. No one can even compare to that level of success, so why does everyone troll Georgia for their NIL strategy? If they’ve won the most then shouldn’t they be trying to copy their NIL strategy instead?
Georgia’s strategy is clearly the best because they’ve won on the field more than anyone else in the NIL era. Georgia should be more than happy to be made fun of because that means no one will try to copy their NIL strategy, and since Georgia has dominated the NIL era that clearly is a very good thing for Smart and the Bulldogs.
