The 2026 college football season is just a few weeks away but roster-building truly never stops in this sport. Kentucky has addressed a depth need at tailback by dipping into the junior college market.
Running backs coach Kolby Smith now has a pair of JUCO transfers in his position room after Jordan Colbert was added to Kentucky’s 2026 roster on Wednesday.
The Fresno (Calif.) Memorial product spent the 2025 season at Fresno City College. Colbert rushed for 602 yards and seven touchdowns on 7.4 yards per rush with one fumble on 81 carries. The tailback earned all-conference honors during the past JUCO season.
Jordan Colbert received a preferred walk-on opportunity to Wisconsin as a high school recruit before landing at Fresno City. The tailback then signed with FCS Eastern Washington in June but that addition appears to have never been finalized. Kentucky has addressed running back depth in late July.
Texas transfer CJ Baxter and Oklahoma transfer Jovantae Barnes are expected to be the top two backs on Kentucky’s roster. Returnee Jason Patterson is also competing for playing time. Martels Carter Jr. was moved from safety to tailback in the spring. Now junior college transfers Ahmir Smith and Jordan Colbert will look to earn playing time when the Cats begin fall camp in August.
