LeBron James' future continues to be one of the NBA's biggest talking points this offseason, and the Miami Heat only added to the speculation this week. A video titled "LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026" briefly appeared on the team's YouTube account before it was taken down, with screenshots quickly making the rounds on social media.
The incident came shortly after Heat star Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked about the possibility of playing alongside LeBron in Miami. While the two-time MVP said he would welcome the opportunity, he also made it clear he would not try to recruit the four-time NBA champion.
Antetokounmpo explained that LeBron has always made the decisions that were best for himself and his family throughout his career.
Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins, however, believes Giannis should take a different approach. Speaking on ESPN's First Take, Perkins said this is exactly the time for Antetokounmpo to reach out to James and do everything he can to help bring him to Miami.
"When Pat Riley lands his big whale or his big fish, Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James, Chris Bosch, whoever it may be in the past, they delivered in great fashion,” Perkins said on First Take. “He didn't bring Giannis down here to wiggle his toes in the sand. Giannis has to get uncomfortable, put his pride aside, pick that damn phone up, and call LeBron James... Giannis better do his damn job, because the one thing that the Miami Heat is missing is they're missing a guy that could be a facilitator and be that floor general. Well, LeBron James is that missing piece."
Perk believes Miami already has enough talent to compete but is still missing the player who can consistently run the offense and elevate everyone around him.
He pointed to four-time NBA champion as the kind of floor general the Heat have lacked, arguing that his arrival would immediately change the team's championship outlook. For Perkins, this is also about leadership. He believes Miami brought Antetokounmpo to the franchise to help deliver championships, and that includes doing whatever it takes to recruit another superstar if the opportunity presents itself.
With Pat Riley's front office long known for pursuing established stars, Perkins said Giannis should not hesitate to make the call if it gives the Heat a better chance of landing LeBron.
As speculation around the 41-year-old's future continues, the former Celtics center believes Antetokounmpo has a role to play in whatever decision comes next.
