Kelly Clarkson kicked off her latest Last Vegas residency by rejoicing that she had left her talk show — and all that comes with it, like human resources meetings.
“They say dumb s---,” Clarkson said Friday during her Caesars Palace Vegas show before laughing. “Like, you can’t comment if someone’s lost weight, and I’m like, bitch! You better write a memo. You better write a memo about it, a song about it. I just think that’s so dumb. It makes people feel good when you say, ‘Oh, you look really good.’ And then people are like, ‘No, because that means you thought they did look really bad.’”
The singer, who’s spoken about her own weight loss, announced in February that The Kelly Clarkson Show would end after its current seventh season. At the time, she cited the need to prioritize her children, daughter River Rose, 12, and 10-year-old son Remy. Their father and Clarkson’s ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, died Aug. 7.
As Clarkson sees it, she said, such a compliment simply means “it’s improved.”

The original American Idol winner said her colleagues hadn’t enjoyed her approach to HR meetings. At all.
“Actually, everyone hated doing HR meetings with me, because I am a nerd,” Clarkson said. “I would literally be like, ‘I’m sorry, so your example is…?’ I would stop the class, and everyone would be like, ‘Can I do the meeting without Kelly?’ Cause it had separate meetings, and everybody would opt out of any meeting I would be in.”
Clarkson said she would regularly question the instructor.
“I would just get into it, because I feel like you need to get into it if we’re there to protect everyone,” she said. “Anyway, I don’t do them.”
The Grammy winner said her approach often left the teachers “sweating.”
She added, “I’m a curious cat, OK?”
All jokes aside, the “Since U Been Gone” singer told Today just after her announcement that deciding to leave the show was “really hard.”
“It wasn’t that the show isn’t doing well,” Clarkson said. “That’s what kind of sucked, everything was going well, and that’s what was really hard.”
She lamented having to say goodbye to her crew.
”And it’s like people’s jobs,” Clarkson said. “We are a family there as well, so that was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a momma.”
