Key Points

  • Today guest Leslie Jones commented on host Sheinelle Jones’ small stature on Tuesday’s episode.
  • The Saturday Night Live alum was there to promote her new HGTV show.
  • The notably tall comedian joked that Sheinelle was an “Oompa-Loompa.”

Leslie Jones called Today host Sheinelle Jones — no relation — an “Oompa-Loompa” during a live show and then things got wild.

The Saturday Night Live alum, who’s 6 feet tall, noted the host’s petite stature of 4 feet 11 inches on Tuesday, when she visited Today With Jenna & Sheinelle.

The comedian stood beside the host and called her “this Oompa-Loompa,” before breaking into the song from the 1971 movie Willa Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Adapted from Roald Dahl’s 1964 book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Oompa-Loompas in the iconic Gene Wilder film are little people Wonka brought to his factory to live in “peace and safety,” away from “beasts.”

On Today, Sheinelle then took off her shoes, as Leslie bent her knees to lower down and popped back up.

Leslie was so flabbergasted by Sheinelle’s height that she then, without warning, easily picked her up, like a new groom traditionally carrying his bride over the threshold.

“It’s like, ‘I do, I do,’” Sheinelle said, as she laughed.

Leslie then put Sheinelle down and told the camera, “She is so small!”

The subject came up because Leslie had been playing a game devised by the morning show, Roast Our Studio, which was tied to her new HGTV series, Roast My Rental. Leslie’s targets had included the Today and NBC logos, fake fruit on set, and stage manager Dave Auerbach.

That’s when she couldn’t help but notice how she towered over Sheinelle.

When she put her back down, they high-fived.

The Coming 2 America actress has joked in her stand-up that her height has affected her dating life, noting that she often gets contacted by guys who are 5 feet, 5 inches tall. But she’s not interested.

“It’s just mean,” she captioned one of her NSFW routines about it.

On her new series, Leslie combines her love of comedy and design as she “goes in on the country’s worst short-term rentals, then attempts to flip them in 72 hours,” according to the network. She works with Jasmine Roth, who is the renovation expert and host of HGTV’s Help! I Wrecked My House.

Roast My Rental premieres July 24 at 10 p.m. ET on HGTV.
