A jury in San Antonio has sentenced a man to 40 years in prison for his role in a 2023 fatal shooting over a financial dispute.
The conviction and sentence of Marco Antonio Moreno-Vasquez on Tuesday came after a week-long trial in San Antonio.
Another defendant in the case, Adis Hernandez-Rivas, entered into a plea agreement and is set to be sentenced this month, according to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office.
Moreno-Vasquez, 37, didn't fire the shot that killed Valladares Fernandez. But prosecutors say he ordered Hernandez-Rivas to shoot him.
Bexar County Assistant District Attorney Meghan Galloway, who prosecuted the case with Lauren Espinoza, told jurors during the trial: "The state is not going to be able to prove to you that this defendant was the shooter. What we are going to be able to prove is the defendant knew Dueniel and that Dueniel owed him a debt. And on that night, he chose greed over humanity, and that he directed Adis to shoot."
The shooting happened in February 2023, at a home in the 7700 block of Winsford Drive in eastern Bexar County.
Moreno-Vasquez and Hernandez-Rivas confronted Fernandez in a dispute over money that escalated into the fatal shooting, prosecutors said.

Surveillance videos captured the shooting and helped lead investigators to the suspects, according to the district attorney's office.
Moreno-Vasquez was also was sentenced to six years in prison on a charge of deadly conduct. The prison terms will run concurrently, and he likely will have to serve half of his sentence before he would become eligible for parole.
"Every life lost to violence leaves a lasting impact on families and our community," Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a written statement. "This conviction reflects the dedication of our prosecutors, investigators and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold those responsible accountable and deliver justice for Duniel Valladares Fernandez and his loved ones."
