Those of us who remember a time when the Duggar girls weren’t even allowed to wear pants probably never could have seen this day coming, but it’s here: Joy-Anna Duggar is advertising bras on Instagram.
Of course, the fact that a Duggar is showing off what underwear she wears to the entire world is mind blowing in itself, but her critics think this is super hypocritical of her after growing up in such a modest household. But now that all the reality TV money dried up long ago for this family, maybe she has no choice?
Joy-Anna’s bras were front and center on her Instagram Stories.
Joy’s Instagram Stories post (which has since expired, but was shared on Reddit) featured her holding up two bras, sharing a link to her favorite bra and shapewear with her followers.
Considering the fact that it wasn’t all that long ago that the Duggar girls were following strict guidelines on how to dress straight from the IBLP, it’s surprising to see that Joy is just… showing off her bras like this? It feels like it was just yesterday that she wouldn’t have even thought of allowing anyone to see her knees or shoulders, so this is quite a jump from the girl we once watched on Counting On and 19 Kids & Counting.
Her critics are calling her ads “odd,” which seems to be an understatement.
People aren’t letting Joy off the hook on this one — especially not after the Duggars used their huge reality TV platform to talk about how immoral they believed that dressing immodestly is.
“I don’t think it’s because bras or women wearing them is bad thing. It’s just that the Duggars would s— golden Nikes if they saw a woman walking past them with so much as a bra strap peeking, those boys would have their eyes drilled into the ground,” one person wrote on Reddit. “But now joy is holding up bras and talking about boob support and it is just something I don’t think many people saw coming from a Duggar!
Could this be proof that she’s running out of money?
“If it pays her money, she will do it,” one person commented, while another added, “She’s always promoting bras, I think these get more clicks than other sponsoring brands because of how she and her entire family active on social media still try to brand themselves.”
Maybe Joy does need the money — or maybe she grew up, realized that the ideals she was raised with didn’t work for the life she wanted for herself, and now she wants to tell everybody about these bras she discovered.
Whatever the reason that Joy decided to jump into sharing this ad, one thing is for sure: There’s no way Jim Bob is going to be able to make eye contact with her the next time he sees her.
