5. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys GM and owner Jerry Jones loves giving unproven veterans chances in the league. However, after signing PJ Locke andJalen Thompson to overhaul its safety group, is there space for Whitehead? If the Cowboys wind up releasing Malik Hooker and elevate Locke to starting duties, there could be a hole to fill for the former Buccaneer. Again, it won’t be the perfect scenario, but it’s a chance to play with America’s team and revive his career with one of the most promising secondaries heading into the 2026 season, especially after drafting Caleb Downs.
4. Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens probably have one of the more exciting safety groups since the Ed Reed era. Between Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks, the team also signed Jaylinn Hawkins via free agency for depth, so they’re loaded at the position. However, who would say no to more help? Whitehead isn’t going to get starting reps here, but should get some rotational calls to prevent Hamilton or Starks from wearing out.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs underwent major changes this offseason, losing Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Bryan Cook this offseason. While the team signed Alohi Gilman to make up for its losses, there’s room for growth here. The team has solidified its cornerback room, bringing back L’Jarius Sneed and drafting Mansoor Delane, but they’re one player away from having a complete safety group.
Whitehead could be an asset for Chamarri Conner and Jaden Hicks as a rotational player and make a few plays down the stretch of the 2026 season.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
After losing Reed Blankenship in free agency, there are huge shoes to fill for him, as the team signed Marcus Epps as a replacement. Andrew Mukuba is solid, but would probably benefit from having a solid veteran behind him. Eagles GM Howie Roseman could sneak in one more signing before Week 1, similar to how they got Riq Woolen earlier this offseason, and acquire Whitehead next month.
1. Carolina Panthers
After signing Tre’Von Moehrig last offseason, the Carolina Panthers are sneakily building one of the most underappreciated defenses in the league. However, Nick Scott hasn’t been as effective as the Panthers wanted him to. With Zakee Wheatley waiting for a larger opportunity, the Panthers could release Scott before Week 1.
This could allow Whitehead to join Moehrig, Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson to fortify this entire secondary. With the team overhauling its pass-rush, signing Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd, it shouldn’t be a surprise for the Panthers to want to do the same in their defensive air attack.
