The action thriller Normal is about to make its streaming debut very soon.
Normal stars Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk as Ulysses, a sheriff who takes over on an interim basis in Normal, Minnesota. After a bank robbery goes wrong, his investigation unravels secrets and conspiracies being exposed in town. The film was released in theaters in April and joined digital platforms in May and on Blu-ray/DVD in July.
Normal will be released on HBO Max on August 14. The streamer revealed the news alongside an announcement of content coming in August 2026, which includes The Strangers: Chapter 1, The Strangers: Chapter 2, Mother Mary, Happy Feet Two, Practical Magic, Sicario, Stand By Me, Taxi, Thanksgiving and The Cabin in the Woods.
HBO Max originals Lanterns season 1, Conan O'Brien Must Go season 3, Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Seattle Seahawks, and Monsters of God are all premiering in August as well.
Normal marks screenwriter Derek Kolstad's latest feature film after creating the John Wick franchise and writing the scripts for Nobody and Nobody 2. His reach has extended to the small screen, where he wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and executive produced The Continental: From the World of John Wick and Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
Filmmaker Ben Wheatley, who directed Meg 2: The Trench and episodes of Doctor Who, brought Kolstad's script to life as the director of Normal, which grossed $6 million at the box office and earned a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 77%.
Odenkirk and Kolstad also produced the film with Marc Provissiero, and the executive producing team included Josh Adler, Rhonda Baker, Carrie Wilkins, Glenn Feig, Molly C. Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, Elan Gale, Matthew J. Anderson, Jared D. Underwood and Andrew C. Robinson.
Odenkirk's co-stars in Normalare Henry Winkler, Lena Headey, Ryan Allen, Reena Jolly, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda and Jess McLeod.
Winkler's performance as Mayor Kibner marked his first big-screen role since making a cameo in Black Adam. The iconic actor has also appeared in several TV shows in recent years, including Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, Loot, American Horror Stories, The Legend of Vox Machina, Monsters at Work and Barry, which earned him his very first Emmy win.
After Better Call Saul ended in 2022, Odenkirk returned to the small screen in Lucky Hank and The Bear, and starred in the sequel to Nobody on the big screen.
For those who didn't see Normal when it was released in theaters, the action thriller is now less than four weeks away from arriving on HBO Max.
