Apple TV Secures Rights To Next Novel From Fourth Wing Author For Major New Series

Apple TV acquires rights to adapt bestselling author Rebecca Yarros' upcoming novel Peculiar Stars into a new drama series for the streaming platform.

Apple TV has landed the rights to an adaptation from Fourth Wingbestselling author Rebecca Yarros, expanding its growing slate of high-profile book-to-screen projects with a brand-new romance drama series.

Yarros has become one of the publishing industry's biggest success stories in recent years thanks to the enormous popularity of her Empyrean series, which includes Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm. The author has built a devoted global fanbase through her blend of romance, fantasy, and emotionally driven storytelling, turning her books into some of the most talked-about releases of the decade and resulting in screen adaptations of her work.

According to Deadline, Apple TV has secured the rights to adapt Yarros' upcoming novel Peculiar Stars as a television series. The project is still in the early stages of development, with no writer, cast members, or showrunner currently attached. However, Yarros is set to executive produce the series through her production company, Full Measures Productions, ensuring she will have a direct role in bringing the story to life.

Peculiar Stars has not been published yet, making Apple's acquisition particularly notable. The novel is scheduled to hit shelves in November.

Peculiar Stars centers on Callista Moran, a young woman who becomes stranded on a deserted island after a sailing trip goes disastrously wrong. Trapped alongside Dominic, her fiancé’s cousin, Callista gradually develops a deep connection with him as the pair struggle to survive and wait for rescue. When they eventually return home after 18 months, they are forced to reconcile their old lives with the people they have become.

The premise marks a departure from the fantasy world that made Yarros a household name. While Fourth Wing revolves around dragon riders, political intrigue, and epic warfare, Peculiar Stars is a contemporary romance focused on survival, identity, and human connection.

Apple's interest in the project underscores the increasing demand for Yarros adaptations across the entertainment industry. In addition to Peculiar Stars, Amazon MGM Studios is currently developing a television adaptation of Fourth Wing and the Empyrean saga. The series received an official order earlier this year, with Yarros also serving as an executive producer.

The Fourth Wing adaptation has emerged as one of the most anticipated fantasy projects currently in development. The novels became a publishing phenomenon thanks to their blend of romance, action, and dragon-centered fantasy, generating a passionate following and dominating bestseller lists worldwide. Industry observers have frequently compared the franchise's popularity to other major fantasy IPs that successfully made the jump from page to screen.

Peculiar Stars is also not the only non-Empyrean project heading toward adaptation. Several of Yarros' standalone novels, including In the Likely Event, Variation, and The Last Letter, are currently being developed for film and television.

For Apple TV, the acquisition represents another major investment in prestige literary adaptations. The streamer has increasingly looked to bestselling novels as a source of original programming, and Peculiar Stars gives the platform a project that combines romance, survival drama, and a proven author with a massive fanbase.

While it may be some time before viewers learn who will write, star in, or oversee the adaptation, with Yarros' popularity continuing to soar and multiple adaptations already in the works, Peculiar Stars is shaping up to be the latest chapter in the author's rapid rise from bestselling novelist to one of Hollywood's most sought-after storytellers.
