Hollywood has seen its fair share of celebrity romances, but some never even make it to date number two. Jerry O’Connell has now shared one such story from the early days of his career, admitting that a famous ’90s TV star ended things almost as soon as they began.
Looking back on the awkward memory, O’Connell joked about getting “dumped” after what he described as “literally one date” and even poked fun at the reason he thinks it happened.

Jerry O’Connell finally named the actress while appearing on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast. Looking back at their brief romance, he admitted that things ended before they really had a chance to begin.
“We were very young, we were kids,” O’Connell said. He then laughed, “Sarah Michelle dumped my a**.” The actor also poked fun at himself by adding, “Sarah Michelle took one look at me and was like, ‘I got to get away from this drunk.‘” O’Connell has previously spoken publicly about being a recovering alcoholic.
O’Connell revealed that there was never a second date. In fact, he joked that Gellar had made up her mind immediately after spending time with him.
“Oh my gosh. She was like one and done. Literally like one date. She was like ‘Well, that was fun,'” he recalled. According to O’Connell, Gellar had needed someone to accompany her to the Emmy Awards, and he happened to be that date. Once the event was over, so was their short-lived romance.

O’Connell Jokes He Does Not Want Any Beef With Sarah Michelle Gellar
More than two decades later, O’Connell has nothing but funny memories from the experience. He even joked that he would rather stay on good terms with Gellar and her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.
“I see her and her husband, and her husband is like a black belt in jiu jitsu, so please, I don’t want any beef with these people,” he joked. O’Connell also described them as a “beautiful family” and said he still occasionally sees them around the neighborhood.
While the romance lasted only one date, O’Connell clearly has no hard feelings. Instead, he has turned the story into a hilarious Hollywood memory and gave fans an unexpected look back at the time a future TV icon decided he was not getting a second date.
