‘Game of Thrones’ is still widely regarded as one of the greatest fantasy TV shows ever made. With its rich world-building, unforgettable characters, and unimaginable twists, it isn’t surprising that it continues to maintain that legacy.
But as incredible as it was, the show isn’t without its flaws. Of course, many of these moments are open to interpretation. What seems illogical to one viewer may make perfect sense to another. Still, these are the top 10 things in ‘Game of Thrones’ that made no sense, and we are still seeking some answers.
10. How Did Sam Survive The White Walkers?
After falling behind his fellow Night’s Watch brothers, Samwell Tarly runs into the Army of the Dead and somehow survives the entire encounter by simply hiding behind a rock. The army marches directly past him and just keeps going.
The White Walkers clearly notice him, yet they never attack or even acknowledge his presence. We can come up with so many possibilities for this, and there is clearly a greater mystery behind it all, but the show completely ignores that.

9. What Are The Night’s Watch Supposed To Be Doing?
By the end of Game of Thrones, the Night’s Watch is somehow still there, with no explanation as to why. For centuries, its members guarded the Wall against the White Walkers and other dangers beyond it.
But with the White Walkers defeated and peace restored with the Free Folk, there is little left for them to protect. Jon Snow’s ending may have been poetic, but sending him back to the Night’s Watch raises an obvious question: what are they even supposed to be doing at that point? And will the injustice of forcing people to join the Night’s Watch continue?
8. Why Did The Iron Bank Even Back Cersei?
The Iron Bank is clearly driven by one thing above all else: profit. But that just makes its continued support of Cersei so much more difficult to understand. After finally recovering the Lannisters’ massive debt, the smarter move would have been to distance itself from the war and back the side most likely to win.
The clear choice should have been Daenerys. Instead, the Iron Bank remained committed to Cersei, a decision that doesn’t make much sense for such an institution.
7. What Was The Point Of Arya’s Faceless Men Training?
Arya Stark’s time with the Faceless Men didn’t really lead anywhere. Her rivalry with the Waif lacked any clear purpose. Moreover, she was somehow able to survive multiple stab wounds without any medical attention.
Even more confusing was why the Faceless Men believed Arya could ever become “no one.” She never stopped being driven by her identity and personal quest for revenge. On top of that, why did they simply let her leave with their skills and secrets? The entire arc somehow never had any real substance.
6. The Mystery Around Melisandre
Melisandre somehow remains one of the most frustratingly mysterious characters because of the inconsistent way the show handled her powers. Season 6 revealed that her necklace concealed her true appearance, despite earlier scenes clearly showing her without it.
At the same time, her prophecies are completely confusing. The series repeatedly built up chosen-one predictions, only for most of them to go nowhere before awkwardly tying one to Arya defeating the Night King. Until the very end, Melisandre’s role never really felt coherent.

5. Everything About Euron Greyjoy Was Completely Bizarre
Almost everything about Euron Greyjoy’s storyline just feels strangely convenient. If he is portrayed as this crude idiot, why is he so unbelievably lucky in everything he does? The Ironborn completely abandon their loyalty with surprising ease to allow him to seize power, despite his questionable leadership.
At the same time, after repeatedly complaining about the Iron Islands’ lack of resources, he somehow builds an enormous fleet in no time. He also manages to ambush Daenerys by seemingly appearing out of nowhere and even lands the impossible shot that kills Rhaegal.
4. How Big Is Westeros?
The way ‘Game of Thrones’ handled travel across the Seven Kingdoms clearly had no practical logic behind it. Earlier seasons established the continent as enormous, where journeys could take weeks or even months, which felt natural. But later on, characters seemed to cross impossible distances in almost no time.
Littlefinger became infamous for appearing wherever the plot needed him, and Season 7 pushed things even further. Gendry somehow sprinted back from beyond the Wall to send a raven to Daenerys, and she arrived with her dragons almost immediately. In a fantasy drama, some inconsistencies are easy to overlook, but the show made the concepts of time and distance feel almost meaningless.
3. The White Walkers Were Too Inconsistent
From the very beginning, the White Walkers were built up as the biggest mystery in ‘Game of Thrones’. The series gradually revealed pieces of information about them. It was clear they possessed traces of civilisation and culture, leaving eerie symbols at places like the Fist of the First Men and Last Hearth.
Moreover, the mystery surrounding the Wall hinted at a far more complex history. But much of that was left unexplained when the Night King was ultimately defeated so easily. At times, the show even contradicted its own rules. If the White Walkers couldn’t swim, how did they manage to retrieve Viserion’s massive body from the frozen lake?
2. Cersei’s Pregnancies Don’t Add Up
It still isn’t clear whether the inconsistencies surrounding Cersei’s pregnancies are simply continuity issues or if there was a bigger plot behind them. The prophecy stated that she would only have three children, all of whom would be crowned and shrouded in gold. That ultimately came true.
But the confusion begins in the second episode of the series, when she tells Catelyn Stark about a brown-haired son, suggesting she once had a child with Robert Baratheon. The confusion only grows when she is again revealed to be pregnant near the end of the show. That plot point was introduced as abruptly as it was forgotten.
It is entirely possible that Cersei was lying in one or both cases, but the show never offered a clear explanation. Actress Lena Headey has actually revealed that she shot a scene where Cersei has a traumatic miscarriage, but that never made it to the show.
1. Why Did Ned Lie To Catelyn?
Ned Stark went to extraordinary lengths to protect Jon Snow’s identity, keeping secret the fact that he was actually the son of his sister, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen. Catelyn loathed Jon because she believed he was the illegitimate son of her husband.
What makes no sense is why Ned never trusted Catelyn with the truth. She was practical, loyal, and courageous, and she could have helped protect the secret instead of spending years resenting what she believed was Ned’s betrayal.
