Jennifer Garner's new eight-part series on Peacock was already one of the biggest shows on streaming following its debut on July 9, but now, the series has solidified itself as the biggest after shattering a massive record for the platform. Garner stars in the new drama as Hollis Shaw, a renowned food influencer grieving the loss of her husband.

Also starring Timothy Olyphant, D'Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, and Harlow Jane, The Five-Star Weekend wasted no time making an impact, reaching #2 on Peacock's list of Top 10 TV Shows just 24 hours after its debut on July 9. It eventually climbed to #1, where it's been ever since.
Based on the novel by Elin Hilderbrand, The Five-Star Weekendfollows Garner's character as she tries to recreate a five-star weekend getaway at her house following the death of her husband. Inviting friends from four different stages of her life to help her get her life back on track, the group settle in for three days of fun. However, what begins as a healing retreat soon turns into an emotional reckoning as old secrets are brought into the light and everything turns to chaos.
Though official Nielsen ratings for the week of July 6–12 won't be released for another month, Peacock themselves have announced that The Five-Star Weekend is officially their biggest scripted series in history. According to the streaming platform (via Deadline), the show racked up an impressive 1 billion viewing minutes after just one week, catapulting it to the top of the list. The series also generated 13 million video views on social media for the week of July 6, placing it head and shoulders above every other show.
By comparison, the previous record holder, The 'Burbs, generated 1.7 billion viewing minutes across its first 50 days on Peacock, meaning The Five-Star Weekend completely blew it out of the water on its way to streaming dominance. Before that, Ted was the record holder, but it's now been relegated to third place.
Will There Be a Season 2 of 'The Five-Star Weekend'?
Developed by Bekah Brunstetter, The Five-Star Weekend has also been scoring big marks with critics and viewers. The series holds an impressive Certified Fresh rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb. Called a “good old-fashioned character drama” by critic Wenlei Ma, Kristen Maldonado from Pop Culture Planet adds:
"Even though the series tackles grief and some heavy secrets, it's surprisingly joyful. There's laughter, dancing, stunning seascapes, and a chic, cozy atmosphere that will make you want to book your own transformative girls' getaway."
Designed as a limited series, The Five-Star Weekend was supposed to be a one-off, but given its massive success, Peacock might be rethinking that strategy. While there isn't a sequel to Hilderbrand's novel, Brunstetter told Decider that "these women could have a girls trip every summer until they're 90."
