Right now, New York City is back in a heatwave. While I struggle at the thought of even stepping outside without dripping in sweat the moment the humid air hits my skin, there’s one thing that’s getting me through it: the thought of a brisk fall. I know, enjoy summer while it’s here! And I will, but I grew up in Minnesota and I don’t do well in the hot weather. So, while everyone’s out in their breezy white poplin skirts and Bermuda shorts, I’m thinking about fall fashion thanks to Jennifer Garner’s latest look.
Garner was spotted out and about in New York City wearing the most fall-coded look—on a nearly 100-degree day, mind you. Bold, Jennifer! She styled an elbow-length knit top that’s perfect for autumn with the most elegant denim style that’s out there: dark-wash, straight-leg jeans. She rounded out the ensemble with brown pointed-toe heels and sunglasses. So simple, yet so chic!

While it takes a lot for me to step outside in denim in the summertime, rest assured the moment the temperatures fall below 60 degrees this fall, I’m going to be wearing Garner’s dark-wash jeans on repeat. I’ve never been a huge fan of light-wash, as I find the color a bit hard to style, but darker options are about as versatile as jeans get without having to resort to a stark black. Versatility aside, I find that the darker wash also reads much more elegant, which is clearly why Martha Stewart regularly wears it. And if Martha and Jennifer agree, you know it’s good.
Trust me when I say dark-wash jeans will be everywhere in the next three months. As for styling options? Endless. I love a fitted white tee paired with the denim for a casual daytime outing or a chic sheer black blouse for date night. So, make like Garner and get a head start on your fall denim with options below.
