Four years after turning 50, Jennifer Garner is looking back on the “special” way she celebrated the milestone birthday. While promoting her new Peacock series The Five-Star Weekend, Garner explained that she “kind of” threw herself a “wedding.”
The show, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2023 novel, follows a group of friends on a trip to the picturesque town of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Appearing on Jenna Bush Hager’s “Open Book” podcast on July 16, Garner was asked if she’s ever had a similar experience.
“I realized I’ve created moments like this over and over again,” she said. “The last time was for my 50th birthday; it happened to fall on Easter, which I’d never had a birthday on Easter until I turned 50, so it was a three day weekend. I just had friends from my whole life—I kind of threw myself a wedding.”
“It was like a long weekend,” Garner, 54, added. “We all got together; one night it was just the girls, and it was so, so special and fun.”
The actress said that she got together “this little posse of work friends,” whom she met while starring in Alias in the early 2000s.
“They were part of it as well, and usually it’s like when I’m working, I live that life, and otherwise I see them every now and then,” Garner shared. “So to have everybody together was especially special.”
The 13 Going on 30 star previously discussed the same celebration in an interview with Town & Country back in 2022.
“I basically had a wedding for myself,” Garner said, adding that she was “so shocked” that she decided to go through with it.
She and her guests also used the opportunity to do some charity work. They were all asked to fill 5,000 backpacks with enough food to feed a family of four to donate to the nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack. “I put everyone to work,” Garner recalled.
