K-pop, pop music from South Korea, has clearly gone mainstream in the U.S. The Netflix movie "KPop Demon Hunters" won an Oscar for best animated film this year. BTS performed with global superstars such as Shakira and Madonna during halftime of the World Cup finals on Sunday.
San Antonio fans have shown up for concerts by K-pop acts NCT 127, Woosung, Seventeen and GSoul at venues large and small.
Now those fans, as well as the K-pop curious, can immerse themselves in the music and culture of South Korean pop when the KPOPWORLD Festival takes over the Alamodome Oct. 28-31.

The festival, presented by KPOPWORLD Magazine, includes two days of concerts Oct. 30 and 31, a dance competition Oct. 28 and 29 and an international vendor village. Organizers expect the festival will draw thousands of fans from Texas and the U.S.
Two-day concert tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday at alamodome.com.
Hip-hop artist Jay Park, who has more than 100 million streams on Spotify for hits like "All I Wanna Do" and "Mommae," will headline the concert. Also on the bill are indie rock band the Rose, girl group ARTMS, musician and TV personality Jessi, boy band CRAVITY and rock band Xdinary Heroes, with more to be named.
More than 30 teams from 29 countries will take part in the two-day dance competition, with winners getting a chance to perform on the festival's concert stage.
The vendors market will offer Korean collectibles and social media photo ops.
The festival "is about giving K-pop fans in this region a festival built around them, at a scale that matches how much this music means to them," KPOPWORLD Magazine CEO Ebe Kh said in the press release announcing the festival. "Every element of this event has been designed with the fan element at the center."
