Horror maestro James Wan has another freaky film to introduce with Other Mommy, the latest horror movie to come from Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The official trailer for the supernatural horror flick has now been unveiled, and genre fans are saying the trailer alone is already giving them scares.
Other Mommy stars Jessica Chastain (It Chapter Two, The Eyes of Tammy Faye), who has dual roles in the film. The trailer opens up with Chastain seemingly playing a mother who may also be the acclaimed actress's eeriest role yet. Along with teasing the film's unique horror plot and Chastain's two roles, the trailer is filled with creepy moments, and many genre fans are saying the trailer alone is already giving them scares. "That is the first time in my life where a jumpscare in a TRAILER has got me," reads the video's top-rated comment on YouTube.
One comment also stated, "I don't think I've ever been this scared whilst watching a trailer."
"This is how you do a horror movie trailer," said someone else.
A lot of the commenters are pointing out how the trailer was screened in theaters before The Odyssey, with one person claiming to have even "left the theater" after the big jumpscare moment. One filmgoer said that this scene "made my entire theater jump, while another added, "I don't think I will recover from this jumpscare so soon." And as someone else declared, "Jesus Christ that table scare is an actual all-timer."
Jessica Chastain Has Dual Roles in Other Mommy
Produced by James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring), Other Mommy is based on Josh Malerman's 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. Rob Savage (The Boogeyman, Host) directed, while Nathan Elston (Succession) wrote the script. Along with Chastain, the movie also stars Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid), Jay Duplass (Transparent), Dichen Lachman (Severance), Arian Moayed (Wonder Man), Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark), and Sean Kaufman (The Summer I Turned Pretty).
Other Mommy follows a young girl, Bela (Clark), who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who is a manifestation of her real mother, both played by Chastain. The entity grows increasingly dangerous while threatening Bela and haunting her home.
This movie marks a return to horror for Chastain. She is well known for playing the adult Beverly Marsh in the hit horror sequel It Chapter Two. Genre fans also appreciate the actress for her role in the 2013 horror flick Mama. Another one of her creepiest roles was in Guillermo del Toro's Gothic horror romance Crimson Peak, released in 2015.
Other Mommy will be released in movie theaters on Oct. 9, 2026.
