Most, if not all, signal callers in the Class of 2027 are committed for next season. As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, the Hokies struck gold in the rising senior class with four-star Peter Bourque from Massachusetts.
He decommitted from Michigan in December when the school parted ways with Sherrone Moore. As soon as he reopened his recruiting, Franklin and Virginia Tech got right into the mix again. Franklin brought quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien from State College to Blacksburg with him, and they were part of Bourque's recruitment before he committed to the Wolverines.
When Virginia Tech got back involved, it came down to the Hokies and Georgia. He picked Virginia Tech over the Bulldogs and Penn State. With football practices beginning over the next few weeks for high school and college teams, recruiting is going to turn to the Class of 2028, mainly the quarterbacks. One of the top ones in the 247Sports recruiting rankings narrowed his list down to three, with Virginia Tech in the mix.
Virginia Tech makes the Top 6 for Class of 2028 quarterback Trace Hawkins
Three-star signal caller Trace Hawkins from Calhoun, Georgia, released his Top 6 programs, which were Virginia Tech, LSU, Vanderbilt, Duke, Clemson, and Kentucky. He is the 30th-ranked prospect out of Georgia in his class.
The 6-foot-0, 180-pound signal caller is the 16th-ranked QB in his class, and dropping his Top 6 is not surprising with the season around the corner. Expect him to take visits this fall to his Top 6 schools on weekends, and it would be surprising if Virginia Tech wasn't one of his stops. Franklin and O'Brien always seem to get the guys they are chasing on campus during visits, even back at Penn State.
Recently, Virginia Tech has already entered the mix for Class of 2029 quarterback Bear Woods, from South Carolina, and has offered him. Unsurprisingly, Franklin and O'Brien are building a young quarterback room from this year's projected starter, Ethan Grunkemeyer, to the depth on the roster behind him to the recruiting classes. Hawkins is someone who it wouldn't be surprising if Franklin and O'Brien make a priority.
