Jacob Elordi shared further details about his scarring Euphoria exit.
Spoiler alert: The star’s character Nate was killed off in Season 3 by being buried alive and subsequently bitten by a rattlesnake.
In the spirit of realism, showrunner Sam Levinson actually had Elordi film this scene in a real-life coffin with a snake (but NOT a rattlesnake, thank goodness), something which the actor has opened up about before — and which he revisited during an interview with guest host Colman Domingo on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in July.
“I think Sam brought me back to torture me,” Elordi joked. “I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin.”
Thankfully, though, the snake who served as the Australian actor’s scene partner was a particularly friendly one.
“He had a very nice personality,” Elordi explained. “He was very docile and very sleepy. I don’t think he’d had a lot of sun … So I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, because he’s meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet.”
He added, “He’d slither down, and he’d find a warm spot.”
Elordi had previously opened up about filming the scene as part of a behind-the-scenes film that aired on HBO soon after the shocking episode aired.
“They had a boa constrictor that they put a fake rattler on the end of, and [Levinson] was like, ‘We’re just gonna drop a snake on you,'” he explained at the time. “Snakes were rattling, which is really alarming when you’re locked in a box.”
That said, Elordi had already shared how much he’d enjoyed the snake in question. “He was super cute,” he said at the time. “He was, like, real cuddly, so he just sidled up next to me, and it was nice. But he was real sleepy. Sleepy snake. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up.”
Euphoria has now ended after just three seasons. Elordi starred in the show alongside fellow megastars like Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer and Barbie Ferreira.
Though the first season aired in 2019, there was a years-long wait for fans between Season 2 and 3.
