Travis Scott is accustomed to performing for large audiences, but he acknowledged that working on Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey challenged him.

On his July 21 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Scott confessed he felt “actually nervous” while filming scenes for Nolan’s star-packed epic.

He spoke about the pressure of performing in front of Academy Award winners and Hollywood heavyweights, including Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.

“Such an amazing cast, supportive,” the artist said, adding, “Nolan… is an amazing director. Everybody made me feel comfortable. I was just glad to be there and watch him and be in such a world with them.”

Fallon showed a rare pair of Travis Scott x Nike ACG Moc slip-ons, and Scott confirmed that he gifted them to the cast and crew.

The shoes will not be released for retail and will remain exclusive to those who were involved in The Odyssey’s production.

Scott also echoed these feelings in a new Variety cover story where he was far more candid. “I was nervous as f***,” he admitted.

He recalled that Nolan asked him to stand on a table inside an ancient castle on a remote Italian island. It was the movie’s opening scene when Scott’s character, a bard, delivers a speech while Hathaway, Pattinson and Tom Holland, alongside extras in the room, watch him.

“It wasn’t like Travis rager s***, or we’re kicking it at a function,” Scott explained. “No, this was some serious s***. There’s a camera right here in my face. Nolan’s right there. And they’re all actors — so everyone’s in their zone, locked in.”

At first, people were confused about why Nolan would cast Scott in a mythological epic story, and we finally have the answer.

The director told the outlet that he viewed rappers as today’s oral storytellers and wanted someone who could command a room through spoken poetry (which is what a bard does), rather than music alone.

He asserted, “If you view it in rarefied terms, if you elevate it and have some very formal version of what a bard in the palace of Ithaca might be, I would find that alienating.”
