John Constantine has never really stayed gone for long, but it's been several years since the occult detective last graced us with his presence and in the intervening time, we've been eagerly awaiting news or a sighting of him. Now, though, we've finally got an update and DC has now confirmed that one of its most beloved antiheroes is officially making his return.
Better still, he’ll be sharing the stage with some of the publisher’s biggest heroes and villains. Constantine has been confirmed as a playable character in DCKO, DC’s newly announced free-to-play mobile fighting game from developer Drop Fake and Warner Bros. The announcement came alongside the game’s reveal trailer, which showcases Constantine fighting alongside characters including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Raven, Lex Luthor and Doomsday. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027 for iOS and Android, with pre-registration already available.
Unlike traditional fighting games, DCKO utilizes 2v2 tag-team combat, which allows players to switch between characters during battles while chaining together combo attacks, assists and powerful dual-character Super Moves. The game's also got both real-time PvP matches and story-driven PvE content, with players able to customize fighters by equipping different Super Moves and upgrading abilities over time. Drop Fake has also confirmed that additional playable “Legends” will be added regularly after launch.
Is 'Constantine 2' Coming Out?
Constantine 2 remains in development, although DC Studios has not formally given the sequel a production start or release date. Keanu Reeves is expected to return as John Constantine, with original director Francis Lawrence also attached and Akiva Goldsman writing the screenplay.
Progress has been frustratingly slow, but Reeves revealed in 2025 that the creative team had finally received permission from DC Studios to develop its idea into a screenplay.
“We pitched a story to DC Studios, and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves said. “So we’re going to try and write a script.” He also promised that the sequel would not make life any easier for its protagonist, adding: “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.”
Lawrence sounded similarly optimistic while discussing the project, saying, “I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.”
DCKO launches as a free-to-play game for iOS and Android in 2027.
