The next 'John Wick' movie officially sets the stage for 2027 release

After Ballerina (starring Ana de Armas) lit the world on fire last year — despite an underwhelming box office performance — fans have no John Wick movie to look forward to in 2026. Lionsgate has confirmed that Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski are working on a fifth installment in the mainline action franchise, but the duo is still in the process of deciding where they want to take the story, so it’s entirely too early to predict when it could be released. Stahelski has been busy this year filming the Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill, but it’s expected that he will begin focusing solely on John Wick: Chapter 5 once he’s finished with Highlander. There is another John Wick movie coming soon, though, and it will be the first of its kind.

The next movie in the John Wick franchise will be Caine, which is centered around Donnie Yen’s character of the same name introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. In addition to starring in the film, Yen will also direct and produce the new action feature, which has been in production since earlier this year. However, Yen took to his personal Instagram yesterday afternoon to officially confirm that Caine has wrapped filming, which sets the film up to be released before the end of 2027. Lionsgate has yet to even set a release window for Caine yet, but now that production has wrapped before the end of July, it would be surprising to see the film pushed into 2028, especially with no other John Wick project lined up for 2027. Yen also has a star-studded roster surrounding him in Caine that will surely help sell tickets when the time comes.

Who Stars in The New John Wick ‘Caine’ Movie?

The first name attached to star alongside Yen in the new Caine spin-off movie was Rina Sawayama, who also starred in John Wick: Chapter 4 as Akira. Once production started, it didn’t take long for more names to come out, but the biggest trio of stars were tapped to star in Caine as Mason Thames, Bill Nighy, and Dacre Montgomery. Thames is best known for playing Hiccup in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, Nighy is famous for starring as Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Montgomery broke out a few years ago with his unforgettable performance as Billy in Stranger Things.
