In the wake of the lawsuit by Janel Grant moving to private arbitration, could Vince McMahon return to WWE? It wouldn’t shock longtime wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio (via Ringside News), Meltzer claimed that “it would not shock me if he was brought back in a position.”
He didn’t say it with 100% certainty, but he said “it wouldn’t shock” him. However, he still “wouldn’t expect it” to happen, as he “cannot imagine he would be put in charge of anything.”

So, if McMahon ever returns to WWE, it wouldn’t be in a meaningful capacity. Meltzer was adamant that he wouldn’t replace president Nick Khan or chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, his son-in-law.
“But the idea of bringing him in in a figurehead position and trotting him out every now and then, like I said, wouldn’t shock me at all,” said Meltzer. “If he came out as a surprise on a television show, it would get this giant reaction. That’s just the reality of the situation.”

After Grant and her legal team were ready to take her lawsuit against McMahon into private arbitration in June 2026, Grant, McMahon, and WWE jointly submitted a new motion that requested the court reschedule a hearing that was set for June 16.
The lawsuit is now set to be dismissed over the coming days. In turn, Grant’s claims and defenses are being pursued in the private arbitration process.
Grant initially filed the lawsuit against McMahon in January 2024. In the lawsuit, she accused McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis of sex trafficking and sex abuse. It has been a long road, but it appears to be coming to a head.
McMahon had retired from WWE in July 2022 after the hush-money scandal arose. He would later return as executive chairman in January 2023, overseeing Endeavor’s acquisition of WWE, which formed TKO Group Holdings with Zuffa (the owner of UFC). Grant’s lawsuit led to his resignation in January 2024.
