This summer is extra meaningful for Prince William and Kate Middleton's son Prince George. The young royal (who will turn 13 on July 22!) is reportedly enjoying "a big summer" for one very important reason - and he seems to be loving it.
"George is about to become a teenager, so it's a huge moment for [William and Kate] as parents," Simon Vigar, "The Four Wives of Windsor" author, said in a July 20 interview with Hello! And he is, of course, heading off to boarding school in September," Vigar continued, referring to the fact that Kensington Palace confirmed in June 2026 that George will be following in his dad's footsteps and attending Eton College.
The boys-only boarding school is in Berkshire, which is "just around the corner from where [William and Kate] live, so they're going to be pretty nearby," Vigar said. "But it's a big summer ahead for them."
Already this summer, George attended Wimbledon with his parents and younger sister, Princess Charlotte, and Trooping the Colour with his whole family, including younger brother, Prince Louis. Royal insiders believe that George will also have lots of fun-filled kid moments with his siblings outside of the public view, including playing tennis at the on-site tennis courts at Anmer Hall, the family's country home.
They will also likely go to the beach and have picnics and sandcastle competition, ride their bikes, walk their cocker spaniel dogs, and enjoy a slower pace before school kicks into high gear in the fall.
Of course, one beloved royal tradition the Waleses are likely to continue this year is going to Balmoral Castle in Scotland with their grandfather, King Charles. Here, they often get to see their cousins, play family games, and go hunting among other activities.

"My childhood was full of holidays having fun in the fresh air, swimming in lochs, family barbecues with my grandfather in command – and, yes, the odd midge," William previously said, per The Standard. He added, "George, Charlotte and Louis are already aware of how dear Scotland is to both of us, and they're beginning to create their own cherished memories there, too."
This summer will be extra special for the royals, as they realize time with George being young is quickly coming to an end.
"In the blink of an eye, George will be 18 and they must know that these years will fly by…" Royal author Robert Jobson also told Hello! on July 20. "[William and Kate have] done a very good job bringing up the children and focusing on their own family unit. Despite all the other drama going on in the family, they rise above it, and seeing them out there together at events like Wimbledon is just a really positive, lovely image."
