Madeleine White is breaking down the astronomical bill she received from a hospital following her C-section and her daughter’s subsequent three-week NICU stay.
In a clip posted to her social media accounts on July 20, the content creator shared that she and her husband, Andrew Fedyk, had been charged $48,000 before their insurance kicked in. She also shared a screenshot of the hospital bill that, after insurance was applied, appeared to be reduced to just over $4,000.
“A lot of you wanted to know why the hell we chose to do it here when we could have given birth in Canada or the UK where it would have been free. So let’s do a Q&A.”
“First and foremost, I’m gonna be honest: did I expect a hospital bill for my delivery? Yes. Did I expect a three-week NICU bill? It probably wouldn’t have changed our decision, but I might have saved for it. We might have skipped the mini Kelly,” White said, referencing an Hermès bag she owns.
“First and foremost, the answer is that we live here. Our life is here. Our home is here. Our dogs are here. Our cat is here. I would never want to deliver my baby somewhere that isn’t at home. Andrew’s work is like 99.9999% in North America,” she added. Though she admitted it was her dream to take her daughter, Juliette, back to the United Kingdom for school, she said she was aware that her life was in the United States at the moment and that was why she decided to plan the C-section in the U.S.
Next, White addressed her C-section recovery. “I want to say this in the least pick-me way possible, but I don’t think I had a normal C-section experience because I don’t think I had a normal labor experience,” she shared. “I was having contractions for nine hours before I delivered. I never once felt pain for a second. I think the whole time I was in the hospital, when the nurses would come in and ask me to [rate] my pain out of 10, I think the max I ever said was a four.”
While she joked that she wouldn’t necessarily describe her experience as a “fun weekend at Disney,” and that she did experience some unpleasantness while getting up and down out of bed and into the car, she felt as though the “adrenaline” from having a baby in the NICU helped her to not feel the pain as acutely.
“I think when your brain is so hyper-focused on something else, you really just don’t have time to pay attention to the pain,” she added.
White then went on to address questions from followers about the night nurse she is currently employing to help with her daughter.
“A lot of people wanted to know if I had trouble like trusting her to take care of the baby and I can easily answer that, she started. “No. When Juliette got home from the NICU, she still felt so fragile. I was so scared to have to take care of her after the nurses had been doing it for three weeks. [The night nurse] would walk in the house and I would be like, ‘Thank God, I can’t f-ck this up for the next 12 hours. I know she’s in good hands. I know she’s gonna eat well. I know she’s gonna sleep well.’”
White went on to share that the night nurse assisted her with feedings at night, changing the diaper, swaddling, soothing and more.
“Those extra 30 minutes of sleep every wake-up, which in the beginning was every two hours, now it’s like every four hours, is huge. I know it’s very much a luxury experience that we are very grateful to be able to have, but I would highly, highly, highly recommend getting one, even if it’s just for a week,” she added.
The parents first announced that they had welcomed their first daughter in a June 2 Instagram post, which showed snaps of the new family together in the hospital.
“Suddenly the world just got a whole lot brighter,” the post read. “Welcome to the world Juliette July Fedyk 🩷 06.01.2026 4lbs and 17.2 inches. We love you so much and are so proud to be your parents x.”
In a TikTok post from the same day, Madeleine shed more light on the circumstances of her daughter’s birth. Speaking to the camera as though she was speaking to her daughter in the video, Madeleine said, “Hi baby you’re early — maybe a placental abruption, maybe something else — but it looks like you’re coming in the next couple days here. I can’t wait to meet you can’t wait to meet you.”
Adding from behind the camera, Andrew said, “And you’re gonna be happy and healthy and the newest member of our family.”
Later, in a TikTok post to her secondary account, Madeleine also revealed that she had suffered from preeclampsia, along with a placental abruption during her pregnancy experience.
