If you just picked up Samsung’s new compact foldable and want to know how to capture what is on your display, you are in the right place. Taking a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is straightforward, whether you are using the main folding inner screen or the outer cover display.

Samsung offers two main ways to grab a screenshot on this device. Here is a breakdown of both methods and how to use them.

Method 1: The classic button combination

The most common way to capture a screenshot is with hardware buttons. This one works the same way as on most other android smartphones. To take a screenshot, simultaneously press the Volume Down key and the Side/Power button located on the right side of the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Press both buttons together briefly and release them immediately—holding them down too long may trigger the power menu instead. The screen will flash, and a floating toolbar will briefly pop up at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can tap to crop, annotate, or share the captured image right away without navigating to your photo gallery.

Method 2: The palm swipe gesture

Maybe you think you can do the classic three-finger swipe gesture found on many other Android devices. However, that is not the case on Samsung Galaxy ones. Instead, the company offers its own hand gesture feature called Palm Swipe to Capture.

To use this method, you need to manually enable it on your device. Open the Settings app, tap Advanced Features, tap Motions and Gestures, and turn on Palm Swipe to Capture. Once activated, you can take a screenshot by placing the side of your hand vertically against the edge of the screen and swiping it horizontally across the display.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is officially available for pre-order starting today. Full retail availability and store sales begin on August 7.
