iPhone users are often delighted to find that their phones are capable of more than they expected.
One individual solicited suggestions from Reddit, taking to the r/iPhone forum with the question: “Which obscure iPhone setting genuinely improved how you use your phone and what does it change?”
The post proved popular with more than 2.2k upvotes and almost 900 comments in six days, but one remark in particular drew the eyes of many contributors.
‘What is this?’
User BackItUpWithLinks noted the app menu next the text box in messages marked with a plus, which users can now long-press on and rearrange.
“For example I pressed on ‘Audio’ and now I can move it,” the commenter pointed out.
However, it was ash032 who blew the minds of Redditors when they posted: “Thanks. Just moved ‘send it later’ up higher as it’s one of the most useful.”
Another individual asked: “What is this magical ‘send it later’ you speak of?”
User newtothis1102 explained that the feature allows you to send messages at a specific time.
“You can schedule a text to send it at a predetermined time to other iPhones,” newtothis1102 replied.
“Example, I’m always up late. I had a thought at about 2 a.m. that I wanted to send a friend, but I wasn’t sure what they did with their phone at night.
“So I typed the text then chose ‘Send Later’ and scheduled it to send at 9:30am.
“I’ve also used it to send messages to my partner at their break time for things they need to remember to do, but would forget during the first half of their day.”
The poster helpfully added instructions: “When you have your text open and typing, hit the plus sign on the left, that brings up a menu of things to attach to your text.”
‘I’ve been waiting’
The information was well received: “I’ve been waiting for that feature,” one user replied.
“It’s sooo useful,” another added, “Especially being a night owl who’s also forgetful.
“I don’t want to be rude and send a text late, but I don’t want to forget to reply, or forget to send that happy birthday/good luck today/whatever text while it’s on my mind. So I schedule it.”
