Now that you have infiltrated the World Tree and even broke past the final defenses, the story finally comes to a head. This has been a long time coming for Palworld, as the 1.0 release marks over two years worth of intense work for the Early Access game, with a story that, while not outright told through meaningful cutscenes or events, is one to admire.
With that said, the final boss is no slouch. This is a proper end boss; it’s unlike anything we had seen before. It’s not going to be the toughest of encounters if you’re properly prepared, but it’s one that will no doubt take some players by surprise by the sheer number of attacks and even, to a certain degree, the mechanics. Thankfully, we have the best means of defeating Zenara and Astralym.
Preparation
Without doubt, this will be the most difficult challenge in the main story. There are definitely more challenging encounters with the summoning ritual and tablets, and even the Arena will require a little more strategy, but that doesn’t mean you can jump right in without thinking.
As for Pals, you’ll want at least one Legendary enemy, preferably one that can fly. Being able to fly makes a lot of the mechanics significantly easier to manage and can almost bypass them all together.
We recommend Frostallion for its mobility and even strong unique attacks while riding it. Also, Jetragon remains one of the best Pals to have, both from flying and damage, especially if you’re at the level to ride it. If you’re not, it’s still good to have as a backup.
If you captured them early on and leveled them up, both Necromus and Paladius are excellent choices in the early stages of the fight, but become a little less useful during the large blasts.
We should mention that you shouldn't bring Panthalus. Despite being a bit overpowered in the open world, and even though the arena is big, Panthalus can’t be summoned for this fight. It’s understandable why, but he is kind of the reason why we’re here in the first place.
Regardless, outside of that, bring your own weapon to help with the damage and aggro control, so your Pal isn’t taking all the hits. Preferably something ranged, such as a Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle or even a Mechanical Bow. Also, take Revival Potions with you to ensure your most desired Pal doesn’t have to sit out of the entire fight if they go down.
Zenara & Astralym Fight
Phase 1
One of the deadliest attacks Astralym has in its arsenal is a giant green beam. It will charge it up, giving you time to get out of the way, but make sure you’re mounted on your Pal to ensure they’re not hit by this. It’s 4 to 5 seconds worth of constant damage, so it can rip through anyone and anything.
It also will have a star shower attack where it shoots beams of light up into the sky, and then falls, striking a wide range around the target. It can also send fireballs to a random person or Pal, along with missile attacks that track onto a target.
One of the few mechanics in the game, Astralym will plunge itself into the arena, and you will get a notice that “Astralym is drawing in energy! Attack its wing to interrupt it!” This is a self-explanatory attack, as you will need to deal damage to each one of its six wings. If you fail to do so, it will explode a sextant in the arena. You don’t need to destroy all of them so long as you’re in one of the safe sextants.
Phase 2
At around half health, Astralym will transform, going into a pink ball and come out with a new color scheme and new accessories. Its previous attack of plunging its wings into the ground becomes modified where it will have overlapping circles throughout the arena. If you fail to interrupt the wings, it will do a multi-hit of damage, even if you’re in the air.
The giant green beam has also been altered to a purple beam that no longer shoots out from Astralym, but instead will be shot in a direction and spin 360 degrees around in a circular motion until returning to the boss.
There are two final small normal pattern attacks where Astralym will shoot out its powerful new circular blades and make a wheel that will plow anything in the direction it’s shot towards. The other is a simple sweeping aerial bombing from the boss going from one edge of the arena to the next.
Finally, when Zenara and Astralym are at around 10% HP, they will go into an enrage sequence in which you will need to burn the remaining amount of health before they wipe the party.
And that’s the entire fight. It can be a lengthy one because it has 588,000 HP to chip away, but it’s a fun one. After the fight, you will be rewarded with an ending cutscene and a congratulation from the development team for seeing the story through, not to mention some statistics about how many Pals you caught and how many bosses you took down.
