How real is this beef between Tom Brady and Logan Paul?

Tom Brady and Logan Paul have spent months trading public jabs, but their rivalry appeared to reach new heights at Fanatics Fest when Brady seemingly slapped the WWE star after the pair shared a stage.

The moment quickly went viral after Fanatics posted the clip across its social media channels. Paul accused Brady of setting a bad example, while the seven-time Super Bowl champion fired back by calling him a “dork” and a “nerd” on X.

For many fans, though, the biggest question isn’t who won the exchange. It’s whether the confrontation was ever meant to be real in the first place.

What Happened Between Tom Brady and Logan Paul?

Following a panel at Fanatics Fest in New York, Brady and Paul exchanged words before Brady appeared to slap Paul across the face. New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns and Chris Costa quickly stepped between them before the situation escalated.

Because much of the audio from the interaction wasn’t audible, Paul later shared his version of events on X.

“This happened bc I was roasting Tom for beating him in flag football. And he tries to smack me?? Horrible example for the kids,” Paul wrote while reposting the video. He later joked, “Aura -100” and added that he had blocked Brady “with a torn tricep.”

Brady didn’t let the comments go unanswered. He first called Paul a “dork” before replying directly, “I tried America… will try again next time I see this nerd.”

The exchange only fueled more discussion online, with fans debating whether the altercation was genuine or something more calculated.

Their Rivalry Didn’t Begin at Fanatics Fest

Despite how sudden the slap seemed, Brady and Paul’s rivalry has been brewing for months.

It began earlier this year after Paul suggested that competing in WWE made him as athletic as NFL players. Brady took issue with the comparison, and the pair continued trading playful insults ahead of and during the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in March.

By the time they reunited at Fanatics Fest, fans were already expecting at least a little trash talk between the two.

Wrestling Fans Think They’ve Seen This Before

One reason so many people questioned the authenticity of the confrontation is Logan Paul’s experience in WWE.

Unlike a typical celebrity feud, Paul has spent the past several years building storylines that extend beyond WWE television. Social media has become part of the show, with rivalries often continuing on X, YouTube, and podcasts before eventually making their way into the ring.

That has led many wrestling fans to ask whether the Brady confrontation could be what’s known in wrestling as a “work” – an angle or storyline presented as if it were real. The opposite, known as a “shoot,” refers to a legitimate, unscripted incident.

There isn’t any evidence confirming the Fanatics Fest altercation was planned, but the timing has certainly raised eyebrows.

Brady May Have Hinted at a WWE Future

Just one day before the viral moment, Brady admitted he’d like to step into a WWE ring someday.

During a live recording of What Do You Wanna Talk About? with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Fanatics Fest, Brady said he had been waiting for WWE President Nick Khan to come up with a storyline that would get him involved.

He also joked that he’d probably play a heel (the wrestling term for a villain) because opposing fans had spent much of his NFL career rooting against him.

For wrestling fans, that sequence of events feels familiar. A celebrity expresses interest in joining WWE, gets into a viral confrontation with one of the company’s biggest stars less than 24 hours later, and suddenly everyone is talking about a potential match.

Whether that was intentional or simply fortunate timing remains anyone’s guess.
