Avengers Doomsday trailer has TVA begging for mercy

The TVA has some simple requests for Marvel fans after that massive Avengers Doomsday trailer dropped this week.

Namely, go ask Kevin Feige all your questions and leave them alone. For a number of years now, every time there is something involving Loki or the Time Variance Authority, a small governmental body in Tennessee has become de facto customer service.

 on social media comp the Tennessee Valley Authority has seen your Avengers Doomsday jokes, and they are not amused. They decided to let their Threads followers know a little bit about what they do and how they will absolutely not be joining in on the fight to stop Doctor Doom in the upcoming MCU film.

“We get this question every time. No, this isn’t our TVA,” they joked, posting a picture of Loki’s name badge. “We generate electricity, manage the Tennessee River and serve nearly 10 million people. They protect the timeline. Different mission. Same initials. Timeline complaints should be directed to@marvel.”

So, there you have it, now please let the good folks down there in the southern United States do their jobs in peace.

What Will The TVA Do In Avengers Doomsday?

Well, to be glib, the same job they’ve been doing in MCU since Loki season one. Protecting the timelines! For those of you who need a refresher, the Time Variance Authority is a body adapted from Marvel Comics in charge of protecting different comic book universe timelines.

In the Loki miniseries on Disney plus, Tom Hiddleston’s Trickster God runs afoul of the organization after dipping off with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. By the end of that series, Loki is charged with helping protect the entire Marvel Multiverse from abject catastrophe.

 Now, to be fair, there have been some changes since Loki season two. Back then we thought the entire Multiverse Saga was leading up to Jonathan Majors Kang the Conqueror as the Big Bad. Now we’ve got a returning Robert Downey Junior as Victor Von Doom.

 The iconic Marvel Comics villain stands toe to toe with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the new trailer. But you can bet that he’s going to have a bone to pick with the TVA at some point in this story. After all, the plot of the 2015 Jonathan Hickman Secret Wars event in the comics involved multiple timelines put into peril.

If that sounds familiar, it should. That’s the general tenor of most of the Marvel movies released since Avengers: Endgame. Slowly but surely, different threats have manifested where universes will be pitted against each other for survival.

It’s Feeling Like Old Times

Loki was a cause for celebration in 2023. So much so, that The TVA actually had to answer for its role in the show. Social media manager Travis Brickey talked about dealing with notoriety. (Apparently, the guy who created Loki’s TVA actually had ties to Tennessee!)

“TVA appears as a Jeopardy question and we’ve been featured on Wheel of Fortune,” Brickey explained. “But having a connection to the Marvel universe – from the comic books to TV – is really great and exposes us to a younger generation.”  

“Back in the analog days when old clocks were plugged into walls, the electric grid had to be kept at a certain timing,” Brickey added. “And if it wasn’t, the clocks would speed up or slow down. So, the saying was that the Tennessee Valley Authority controlled time.”

Gives “For All Time, Always” a new meaning doesn’t it?
