A heroic driver helped a police officer pursue a fleeing suspect – by giving them a lift.
Police were seen chasing a person on foot at Western Esplanade, Southampton at around 7.30pm on July 20, 2026.
An officer then jumped in a car passing by so they could catch up to the suspect.
A video shows the policeman getting out of the car and continuing the pursuit on foot, after getting a ride.
The filmer, who does not wish to be named, said she and her friend were driving home when they saw the chase unfold.
She said the officer entered the car as they passed by and directed them to follow the suspect.
The woman who filmed the incident said: “He opened the door and told us to follow the suspect.
“We thought he was coming over to tell us to stop filming, but instead he jumped in and we drove after the man until the officer told us to stop.”
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have been contacted for comment.
