Henry Cavill might be having a bad run at the box office, but on streaming, it's a different story altogether. His recent Guy Ritchie movies, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and In the Grey, as well as Argylle, Night Hunter, and Sand Castle, all drastically underperformed in theaters, but all of them have gone on to find success on streaming. However, Henry Cavill's latest hit was released exclusively on streaming earlier this year, and it's already one of the biggest films on Netflix.
Led by Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown, Enola Holmes 3 is now streaming on Netflix, and the series has shot up the streaming charts. Per TUDUM's own data, Enola Holmes 3 is currently the third most popular movie on Netflix this week. Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea holds the number one spot, with Voicemails for Isabelle in second. Enola Holmes 3 has spent three weeks in Netflix's weekly top 10, earning 4.7 million views this week. That's a far cry from Shipwrecked, which raked in a staggering 11.1 million views. Also in the top 10, still, is KPop Demon Hunters, which has remained in the top 10 for over 57 weeks.
After the immense success of 2020's Enola Holmes, Netflix was undoubtedly going to churn out sequels. Directed by Philip Barantini, Enola Holmes 3 sees the titular heroine, played by Millie Bobby Brown, set off to Malta, where she tackles her most complex and dangerous case yet. Henry Cavill returns as Sherlock Holmes, as does Helena Bonham Carter as their mother, Eudoria Holmes. The third installment also stars Louis Partridge, Himesh Patel, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Hattie Morahan, and Susan Wokoma.
'Enola Holmes 3' Is Another Netflix Hit
Even some of Netflix's worst movies (we're looking at you, The Electric State) still manage to be massive hits in terms of viewership. The streaming giant has perfected the second-screen viewing formula, and Enola Holmes 3 is another continuation of that entertaining, but ultimately forgettable movie experience.
Enola Holmes 3 earned decent reviews, with a 66% Rotten Tomatoes score. But it's safe to say that the franchise has gone downhill since the first installment. The threequel holds a poor RT audience rating of 48%. It appears as though the cracks in the Netflix content-mill formula are beginning to appear.
Will Enola Holmes Return For a Fourth Movie?
It's bad Rotten Tomatoes user score aside, audiences clearly seem to be enjoying Enola Holmes 3 enough to keep it floating on the streaming charts. At the time of writing, that performance hasn't been enough to convince Netflix to greenlight a fourth movie, yet. However, considering it has only been out for three weeks, and Netflix usually operates on a 91-day performance metric, it may be some time before the streaming giant decides Enola Holmes deserves another outing. But its performance so far is a good indicator for the future of the franchise.
