The truth is still out there, thanks to a new LEGO set based on the classic '90s-era sci-fi show The X-Files. The forthcoming set has 1,478 pieces and includes eight mini-figures modeled after characters like Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, and the Flukeman, a terrifying monster from the iconic episode "The Host." Naturally, there is also a little grey alien.
The LEGO set is arranged as a three-tiered tower. On the bottom layer, there's a replica of Mulder's office, where he and Scully would debate the plausibility of extraterrestrial phenomena. Above that is a forest clearing, and on top is a hovering UFO.
To promote the new set, The LEGO Group has released a charming short film where Gillian Anderson returns to play the ever-skeptical Dana Scully, last seen in action when The X-Files was revived for a pair of new seasons in 2016 and 2018. Scully gets a mysterious package delivered to her hotel room. Naturally, she snaps on a pair of plastic gloves ("I miss that sound") and starts to investigate. "Multiple components," she notes as she pours LEGO pieces out of a baggie. "Interlocking system." She regards the Mulder mini-figure for a beat: "I don't remember you being so small."
After she's done putting the set together, the whole thing starts to glow and gets sucked up into a strange overhead light, which probably won't happen with the real thing. It's a fun commercial that pays attention to little details; Scully is even reading a book about UFOs called The Return when she hears a knock on her door.
The X-Files set is part of the LEGO Ideas program, where fans can send in their ideas for new LEGO sets. This idea was sent in by fan designer WetWired, and earned enough votes for The LEGO Group to actually make it. Making a commercial with Gillian Anderson herself is just a bonus.
The X-Files LEGO set will be available on Aug. 1, 2026 for members of the LEGO Insiders Early Access program, and on August 4 for everyone else. On the TV side of things, Sinners director Ryan Coogler is working on an X-Files reboot show on its way to Hulu. As for Gillian Anderson, you can see her in the upcoming horror movie Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which will be in theaters on Aug.7, 2026. So far, it's getting glowing reviews.
